After surgery?

Recommended Posts

My surgery is set for July 31st which is a wed. How did everyone feel after surgery? I have a desk job so I sit and have no strenuous activity. Do you think I'll be ok to return to work the Monday or Tuesday after surgery? Or do I need a full week or more to recover?

I think everyone differs. I was planning on returning to work after 1 week. My plans changed. My recovery has been a little harder than I expected. I'm 2 weeks out and will go back tomorrow. Luckily I work from home and only need to go in twice a week for a few hours. Thank goodness!!! There is no way I'd be able to work a full 8 hours right now. :-(

I have a desk job and my surgery will be on a Wednesday. I have chosen to take the rest of that week off plus the week after. I had the vacation time.

I agree everyone is different. I too work from home and leave for about 2 hours a day to go to the courts, my home job is basically a desk job, but honestly I had my surgery on a Thursday and wasn't up to actually working till about the following Wednesday because of the gas. It all depends really on your body, if it tells you that you are not feeling well than listen to it:)

I work from home too. I had surgery on a Monday and stayed overnight in the hospital. I did work on Wednesday for just a few hours on my laptop from my recliner. I managed to get all my work done that week but I did a little at a time. I was pretty sore for an entire week.

Ive read that you could have the surgery on Friday and be back at work on Monday but even if I could, I would take more time off. I am taking two weeks off just so I know I will be ready. I have a desk job but I dont want to rush or push myself so I think two weeks should be fine.

Thanx for the responses. My surgery is on a wed and I plan on taking off a full week after. I just started a new great job so I'm nervous about taking off too much time. I have a desk job and currently work in office 4 hours a day. I can't believe how close it is getting to my surgery I am sooooooo nervous. Almost a month away.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
