I had surgery 2 months ago and although I saw my portion size go down I was really frustrated to see that I wasn't losing the weight. A week ago I had my 3rd fill and omg... I can bearly get food down. Not sure if the dr wanted to stop my complaining or really help me, the thing is that after two bites I literally have to push it out bc if I try to keep it in it really hurts. Could this be a sign that I need to unfill a bit or should I give it time to get used to it? If I stick to Soups and puddings its not bad but I dint want to eat Soup for the rest if my life....

You're too tight. Call your doctor and get back in to see if he wants to do a slight unfill.

Side note: You talk about not losing weight and portion sizes. Keep in mind the band isn't supposed physically stop you from eating anything. In fact, way too many people end up too tight expecting it. What the band is supposed to do is keep you satisfied on much less food for much longer periods of time- not stop you from over eating. This is why it's important to stick to band sized portions.

Have a look at this link, I think it will help: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

Best wishes.

When it comes to fills I'm an advocate of getting smaller ones frequently as opposed to large ones infrequently. Alos, each fill can have a drastic effect on what you can eat and you should take it slow after each one. It does sound like you are too tight like Mis says and should call your doc. In the meantime you might try some liquid motrin to help with the swelling.

If you told your Dr. the problems you were having before he filled I am surprised... my Dr. is very conservative and he asks me lots of questions before deciding whether to give me a fill...I have only had 2 fills (tiny) since my surgery in Jan... I know if I told him I was having problems he would not do it..You need to be very honest with your Dr. and see what he says... I think like Mis you might be too tight..

If you chew your food properly and take very small bites, this bolus of food would resemble Soup. If you can eat soup and not regular food, you might be a little too tight or you may not be following the eat small chew big rule?

You may not be eating small bites and may not be chewing enough? It's a difficult task for most all of us to overcome since we got where we are/were by eating too much, too fast.

At times there can be a fine line in to tight and just right. I had a fill a couple weeks ago, it was fine then, I knew I was tight, but as my cycle time has gotten closer I can't eat solids. I am drinking shakes, eating yogurt, eating eggs, soft fish- until I get through this. If this doesn't go away after my cycle I will go back and get a little unfil.

As always, check with you doc.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
