Danigirl-80 3 Posted June 24, 2013 Has anyone ever had a slip and if so, what did you do? I am worried about mine, got banded on May 24, and have been able to eat and drink like normal. I go this Wednesday for a fill and hope I did not mess up. I should be kicking myself in the rear end for going back to my old ways. I may be just fine, and it could be the fact that my band only got 1/2 cc or less at surgery and maybe I have just stretched it. Just wanted to see if anyone else has had similar situation. My hope is I am ok and will start fresh with my first fill this week.
mda69 36 Posted June 24, 2013 I was banded on 5/23. I too can basically eat and drink at will. At first it was very restrictive but think this was due to swelling. I just stick to Portion Control and follow exactly what I was told to do by Dr. I typically get about 800 calories a day. Make sure you get your Protein in (70-80). This helps. Hang in there... I hear this is called band hell! My first fill is not until July 11th (Ugh). Good luck! 3 txflea, Danigirl-80 and stept04 reacted to this
lisamase 52 Posted June 24, 2013 Hi. I had lp on 6/3 and had first fill Friday. 2cc I think. I feel hungrier now then whole last 3 weeks. I had the nerve to eat a dunkin donuts bagel twist today and feels like its just stuck, won't do that again. Funny thing... Didn't taste as good as it used too. I guess since gas got better, I'm getting hungry. Down 22lbs as of Friday and don't want to go backwards. Good luck!!! 1 Danigirl-80 reacted to this
txflea 63 Posted June 24, 2013 I was banded on 6/6 so don't feel like the lone ranger, I feel like I can eat like crazy too. I follow my portions and I log every lick, nibble, bite, chew, whatever into My Fitness Pal. I also make sure I take small bites and chew chew chew! I am consuming on average between 900-1000 calories a day. I use my phone and set a timer for 30min from the time I take my first bite and I make my meal last the entire 30 min (I'm doing it now actually) after the meal I set the timer again for 30min so I know when I can have that first drink. I feel full with the amount of foods I'm eating but at night, that's when the cravings set in. Lol I have started crafting, knitting, going to bed early whatever to work through the late night need to graze. Good luck! 1 Danigirl-80 reacted to this
Danigirl-80 3 Posted June 24, 2013 Thanks ladies!! I was wondering what the "band hell" was. I have had the nerve to eat pizza and beer. Lol. But have also noticed some things not being as good as they used to as well. I will get the fitness pal, and get this and myself under control!!!!
Noki124 36 Posted June 24, 2013 Glad I'm not alone either - I was banded 5/21 and only felt restriction once real bad minus the few days after surgery. I ate a donut today - not proud but I did and it went down fine. My first fill is 7/5 and I'm trying real hard to follow the rules just sometimes I slip up. 2muchfun 8,927 Posted June 24, 2013 Relax everyone. What you describe is very normal. It can take many fills before you feel satisfied with less food. The stoma(hole between pouch and stomach) is usually wide open in the beginning while you are healing. food of all kinds can pass through with ease, unless, you have additional edema from the surgery. You will be in "Bandster Hell" till you receive a fill that suppresses your appetite with less food. It's nearly impossible to have a slip or pouch dilation at this stage unless you insist on eating pot roast, pizza or dry chicken to the extreme. Convulsive vomiting can cause a band slip too. But these are extreme examples and it sounds to me like you're just having a normal journey as most of us have experienced. tmf 4 BayougirlMrsS, stept04, Spaness2012 and 1 other reacted to this
Toddy 758 Posted June 24, 2013 Even though you are able to eat anything until you reach restriction, you should try to practice some self control. My Fitness Pal was a great help for me before I reached restriction. The band will not be a magic weight loss weapon, you have to get used to the fact that you need to change your eating habits. The band only helps with this, but what you choose to eat is strictly up to you. 6 Danigirl-80, txflea, guyguys1 and 3 others reacted to this
judy1122 1 Posted June 24, 2013 So how do you know if your band slipped?
2muchfun 8,927 Posted June 24, 2013 So how do you know if your band slipped? Seems like most patients who state their band slipped don't know it slipped till the surgeon looks at the band with a fluoroscopy. Usually, they can't eat much, have a lot of acid reflux, heartburn and seem to feel miserable. Almost all slips occur months or years from surgery. 1 judy1122 reacted to this
Spaness2012 609 Posted June 24, 2013 "Bandster Hell" is very real. Like the post said above......until you get several fills to get some restriction....it's all YOU and want power. I would stress that following the rules and eating smaller meals during this time will help you immensely when you do feel restriction. It's a process...a journey. 2 Danigirl-80 and 2muchfun reacted to this
