Drinking and really uncomfortable...

Recommended Posts

Question: I was drinking my flavored Water with some Protein powder mixed in. I sipped it slowly over probably 30 minutes. When I was done I felt horribly full. I thought liquids passed straight through, so why did I feel so icky?

You probably drank too much too quickly! You appear to be a newly banded person and so therefore must slow down on your drinking besides your eating. Maybe your bottle of Water was too much for one "meal"! How many ounces in your bottle? Even water, taken too much, will take a while to go down. Good luck, Karen

recently banded = swollen insides

it makes it hard to swallow and it def makes you feel full.

it will pass as the swelling goes down....but as karen says, drinking too fast or too much (same with food) does give you that icky feeling also.. go slow....dont rush the healing.....it was major surgery..

msapp77, I'm feeling exactly the same! Banded Friday & any time since Saturday that I try to take in fluids I feel as if I'm painfully full after just a couple of sips. It's been the most uncomfortable part of recovery for me bc I can barely get any fluids in. I'm sure swelling plays a big role. Hoping it subsides quick. VERY uncomfortable. Hope u feel better.

I am one week out today and have had the same problem. If it is real cold liquids I

think the band spasms kinda. We are to sip the drinks not gulp. Had to break bad habits. I tried slowing down to sips and it seems to be much better.

Agreed ladies. I was banded a week ago tomorrow. I have to drink slowly too. Try and befriend me and we can support each other. If you think or find any good recipes for the puréed and soft foods week, let me know. Thanks.

I promise you all in not very long the swelling will go down and then you'll miss feeling full all the time because you'll be ravenous! This stage is the hardest, the time between surgery and starting to get fills. It happened to everyone!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
