xelapaul 0 Posted May 5, 2006 I have had Crohn's dz for over 15 years and have been symptom free for most of the time. My question is ... has anyone out there have had the LapBand surgery and how are they tolarating it? God has a sence of humor:) ... all crohn's pt I know are supper thin, I end up being the black sheap of the dz lol:D. Anyhow, If anyone has had any experience with crohn's//Lapband I would REALLY be greatfull to hear about it. Thanks all Xelapaul

paula 4 Posted May 5, 2006 My sister is 5'7 - approx 325 and SHE has crohns too. I asked my surgeon about her getting the band with this disease ~ and he said NO. I remember this issue came up not long ago. Have you tried looking around the LBT storage files (under the search title) to bring up forgotten info? Good luck. And if you find anything worth reading, please share.
cashley 0 Posted May 5, 2006 It says in the Inamed book that it's a No for Crohns. I have a friend that has it and she's about the same size as me... but her doctor won't do it. I'm not sure I understand why since it's not malabsorptive, doesn't affect the intestines and you can still eat normal foods and Fiber?
xelapaul 0 Posted May 5, 2006 Thank you all so much for your responses! I am more of a reader then a responder but I think this forum is #1 as far as support and kindness is concerned:clap2:. Having lapband as an exclusion is SO stupid especially when (at least for me) the less food you put into your system the less work load is put on the intestince the easier it is for us "crohnies:) " to live with this dz. I have a friend who has severe crohn's and when it gets so bad he can't tolorate it, he admits himself into a hospital and lives on IV drips for a few weeks to help his gutt rest.... I would think the Lapband would achieve the same results without the needles and allowed you to look pritty good in the bathingsuit in the process;)
mustard maker 0 Posted May 13, 2006 I have crohns and I have found a DR who will do a lap band on me. I had surgery for crohns. You need to call all the Dr's and ask them there out there the reson they dont like to do surgery is if crohns comes back the drugs you take can erode yor stomach so they say. I my case the drugs dont work and crohns will start where they last cut me and hung a bag so they will just cut out the bad intestin and life will go on. Im having mine done in ND.for $ 12700. aaamom 0 Posted May 13, 2006 Hi there I have crohns and have had the lap band. I, too, was not your average crohn's pt (ie: super thin), but have tolerated the procedure very well. In fact, I have been symptom free since the surgery. There are docs out there who will do the surgery. My doc said NO WAY to RNY as she felt I might need my stomach someday. Good Luck
