DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted June 23, 2013 I have no problems swallowing pills and have since surgery. If you do crush your pills, check with your pharmacist first. Some pills can't be crushed or cut or it can cause an accidental over-dose. Best wishes
kll724 3,055 Posted June 23, 2013 I used to crush, but now am free of med. I take Vitamins and make sure they are small or I open one that is capsule
j0anna 37 Posted June 23, 2013 I keep forgetting to ask my dr and the situation hasn't come up yet, but what do you do if you have to take meds with food?
Terry Poperszky 2,784 Posted June 23, 2013 I take other medications...so far after my banding I crush them up and take them which is nasty....do anyone else crush your meds or can you swallow your pills whole My daily meds are small and I have no problems with them, on the other hand I have a couple of nutritional supplements I use when exercising that I do crush. Nasty? Mildly, but it is a fact of life for me, so I don't stress, I just do it. The other day at work, a co-worker watched on in amazement as I crushed a couple of ibuprofen and just popped it into my mouth and washed it down with Water. debee 47 Posted June 23, 2013 I have no problem taking my meds. A small sip of Water first then pills with a drink of water. Good luck!

stept04 465 Posted June 23, 2013 I made sure I could cut up all my pills before surgery then I also bought liquid and chewable Vitamins. I can take all my pills whole since my surgery. I still use the liquid and chewable vitamins because they usually come big, but also because I already bought them. ~~~Stephanie
stept04 465 Posted June 23, 2013 I keep forgetting to ask my dr and the situation hasn't come up yet, but what do you do if you have to take meds with food? You can sometimes use milk instead of food with your meds, but I'd check with the dr. or pharmacist. ~~~Stephanie

marfar7 1,533 Posted June 23, 2013 I've always taken all of my pills normally. When I first had surgery 3 1/2 yrs ago, I was taking about 16 pills a day (about 10 meds, some of them several times a day). Except that when I take like 8 pills at once, I would swallow maybe 2-4 of them at a time(depending on the size), wait for 5 mins and then continue. I got a handful of pills stuck once. Never again. Never had a problem with pills. Even my dr didn't have a problem with me taking them. Good luck! Marci
makemeova36 23 Posted June 23, 2013 I was told to crush mine. I was on Bactrim after surgery which I have taken before. However crushing them gave me an allergic reaction. So they switched me to a different antibiotic. My pharmacist advised to crush and put in apple sauce.

Mandi1441 23 Posted June 24, 2013 My doc told me to crush and mix them in a spoon of unsweetened applesauce. I takes some of the bitterness out of it. 1 kll724 reacted to this
GoingforGoal 1,734 Posted June 24, 2013 Fun topic. I started out cautious and would take liquid vits (yack) which quickly turned into Gummy vits and vit D. I have never been a pill fan so this was ideal anyway. However, there are those non-gummy meds you have to take. If over the counter, I try to find smaller doses to keep pills small. I'd rather take 2 than 1 heaping pill. However, I have had antibiotics that were horse pills. I always hesitate wondering if THIS one is going to get stuck. Never has. I'm so confused how a horse pill causes no probs but eggs..even yogurt some days can be problematic. Go figure! lol
