How often do you weigh yourself?

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I am wondering if there is a big variety in how often everyone weighs themselves? What do you find is a good fit for you, daily, weekly, only at your doctors visits?

I weigh myself twice a day, every morning, and every evening. I know that whatever I weight at night I can expect a 2 lb. decrease in the morning. I don't think this is a good thing, I'm just being honest I'm a scale *****.

Typically, I weigh myself once a week. I can't deal with daily fluctuations; day to night, night to day.....DAY to day. Once a week keeps me sane.

Years back I was a complete and total scale addict. I was on the thing several times a day. In later years I mellowed a bit. Then, as I started gaining weight (again), I didn't even want to know what the number was. I could tell in my clothes, but I avoided the scale like the plague. Now, my goal is to keep moving forward in my post-op life, without making myself obsessed and crazed with the scale. If I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing, the weight is going in the right direction.

You will all kinds of answers for this question, some people obsess with the number and can't cope with fluctuations that will occur and to them it's not worth the stress.

You have to do what works for you. You won't lose as quickly if your stressed all the time!

I myself weigh every night and morning. I do this so I know if I need to double check anything that i might overlook, keep myself accountable, and it also gives me a heads up to tom, Water intake, etc...

having said that I don't freak out if I don't lose anything for a couple of weeks.

do whats best for you and your progress!

Good luck you'll do great!

Morning and night, and I write it down in a small calendar appt. booklet. I don't fret the day to day variations... but it keeps me honest week to week.

I don't want to be a slave to the scale, so I usually weigh once a week, trying to wear similar clothing each time. The first couple of weeks post op, my scale didn't budge much and it was too frustrating. So I also look at how my clothes fit. I think it sometimes takes awhile for the scale to catch up!

I weigh myself every morning unless I'm running late. I record it just weekly though as I know there will be fluctuations because of Water retention.

I weigh every 1-2 days except when I have my period (just too depressing then). I'd rather not because I do stress over it a little but I know I'm not great at monitoring when my clothes start to feel tight - because they almost always feel tight to me. Next thing I know, I'm buying a bigger size. I've tried measuring inches but need a trick to hit the same spots every time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
