My Ah-Ha moment...What was yours?

Recommended Posts

I have been wondering where the weight was coming off at? couldn't really tell. I took a shower and stepped on the scale and yes down pounds but still not sure where......Until I put a night gown on that when I used to put it on I would move my arms out threw it to stretch it so that it fits better, Come on ladies I am sure others have done this, and low and behold AH-HA! I put it on without having to stretch it out:) My AH-HA moment shared, so what was yours?

The aha moment for me was putting on one of my button down shirts that I wore open with a cami underneath because I could no longer close the shirts. One day I put on one of those shirts and realized it was flapping around a bit much and to my amazement I was able to button it back up. It was at that moment I realized the weight was coming off and I was getting smaller.

Ah yes, the ole' stretch & wear syndrome  My nightgowns, T-shirts, stretchy pants.....ALL of it!

I had the same experience just this week. I couldn't find a nightgown to wear (guess they were all in the laundry), so I pulled an old one out of the drawer. Hadn't worn it in about 2 years. I thought.....okay, maybe? Put it on - NO problem! This morning I went shopping in my closet, and pulled things out of nooks & crannies that hadn't been on this body in a long time. Some of them fit. I'm elated!!!

I always use bath sheets, and as I was gaining weight, momentarily thought they might be shrinking. Really??! Yes, a fleeting thought with a huge dose of reality. The towel is wrapping around a bit better now, but not as good as it WILL be :-)

I had so much fun in those early months. Every time I did the laundry I had more clothes that were too big. I would stack them outside my closet door. It was fun to watch the pile get taller and taller as the months by. It wasn't long and the pile was almost as tall as i was and toppled over. It was a great visual reinforcer of the progress I was making when I was having a bad day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
