It's been a long day but I made it through & I'm happy to be on the post op end of the journey now! Here's the break down of how my experience was today;

Went into the OR at 8am & was woken up at 9:20am. My initial thought was how bad am I hurting & oddly I really wasn't. Of course given the effects of anesthesia I wasn't feeling much at that point. The exact feeling was as if I had eaten a huge meal to the point of being painfully full. It was very bearable. They made me sip 4oz of clear fluids per hour. First & 2nd hour was Water then 3rd was apple juice diluted then 4th was cranberry juice diluted. During the 3rd hour I started feeling gas pains but it was minor. 4th hour it was a but more intense. Still bearable. Some soreness began kicking in. Throughout that whole time I was able to urinate with no trouble. I went about 3 times before being discharged after my 4th hour of fluids. I was given Percocet for pain in pill form broken in half (2 of them) then sent on my way. I was told NOT to take Gas X strips for the gas pains which I found odd. The nurse said they rather I just walk & stick to the pain meds. Anyone else advised to not take them? Once I got home the has pain escalated as did the soreness. It felt like having an upset stomach ache. Left shoulder started hurting from the gas. Did some walking but didn't feel much relief. Had a bit of clear chicken broth without any trouble & been trying to sip Water throughout. Once I felt more uncomfortable w gas pain & soreness I took my pain meds again & slept till a lil while ago. I'm pretty comfortable now & the soreness/gas feels way less. Still sipping slow & awaiting what day 2 will bring. Hope anyone reading around on what to expect right after surgery finds this info useful! Ohh, the tip I got about Chapstick was great! It was definitely needed & came in handy.

I was advised against it as well, HOWEVER, I opted for the Gas X gel caps at 120 dose recommended by the pharmacists. I told him what I did, and oddly enough he also got banded and took what he recommended. It doesn't make it go away but it does truly help. Keep a heating pad close, and you'll be ok in a feel days:) I am proud and happy for you!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
