Two weeks of pre-op diet and now this.......

Recommended Posts

Supposed to be banded this morning and late yesterday afternoon the office called and said the anesthetist wanted to do another sleep study. Granted mine was over 10 years old, but was primarily used to get insurance to cover a uvuloplasty procedure. Never had to use a CPAP.

Seems like they could have thought of this a lot sooner before I was at the end of the two weeks of pre-op diets. So unless they can FedEx Saturday a test machine for a two day study and get the results back, I am looking at three weeks before a possible date because of the July 4th Holiday.

I have already self paid the $10K cost.

That is surely frustrating. Keep your head up, I'm thinking its for the best. I'd rather them be sure about putting me under than take chances. Good luck!

well, i think it is playing it safe so when he puts you under, he feels secure that you will wake back up...i find that a good thing...you wouldnt want to go to a drive through lap band clinic would you?? this tells me they care alittle bit about their patients..consider yourself lucky....

What does your surgeon say? I tend to think he will be a little bit preterbed over this delay that could have been taken care of when you did your preop testing. How severe were your results on the last test?

Just think how much you will have lost by the time surgery rolls around. :D

Thanks everyone. I know they are thinking about what is best for me. They are sending the sleep study machine with Saturday delivery, so they should have the results by Wednesday, I've only had talks with the office staff, none of the doctors have talked to me about the delay.

You must be so frustrated to be so close then have this roadblock thrown up in your path! But if your anesthesiologist feels that the sleep study is necessary, there must be a good reason. It is his/her job to get you through your surgery safely, and they are acting in your best interest. Better safe than sorry.

True Results was able to expedite the sleep study for me and I am rescheduled for this Thursday. So only a week slide in the schedule. Starting the third week of the shakes, I am starting to think they don't really taste that bad.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
