To "eat" or not to "eat"?

Recommended Posts

So I do not feel hungry in the least. I am now 24 hours with no food. I've been sipping Water, but wondering if I should make myself drink some other liquids?

Your profile says you just had surgery today? If that's the case, you shouldn't be eating at all, just sipping whatever liquids your doctor approves.

If you can only sip Water right now I wouldn't worry about it. Your biggest concern is to stay to hydrated right after surgery. So, keep sipping lots of Water. Your appetite will come back soon then you can move onto whatever other liquids your doctor approves.

Best wishes.

My Doctor sent me home from the hospital with Isopure to drink it is a clear Protein drink. So, you may want to check with your Dr. like mis73 said. He may want some Protein in that liquid. Good luck

Mis73 - they told me to drink/eat Clear Liquids for the first 48 hours. And not have anything cold for the first 3-4 weeks. So my smoothie Protein shake will now have to be warm. Yuck! Haha!

Eeewww...I'm not even gonna lie, a warm Protein Drink sounds icky lol.

Hang in there, remember this is just a tiny little bump in the road. You'll be past this phase and onto actual food again before you know it! :)

How about a warm chocolate shake? I have had them before and they kinda taste like hot chocolate.

I am trying to get as many fluids in as possible! Now that my bladder seems to be on par again, this should be easier!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
