ShantelleElaine 39 Posted June 19, 2013 I'm 6 days banded and went to the ER last night, I have a DVT (blood clot) in my left leg. the funny thing is I walked n walked n walked some more, even did foot pumps when I thought about it, just goes to show how even though I went above n beyond what was expected to stay mobile i still got a blood clot with having no history of it. Just wanted to give a heads up to any newbies that it's so important to stay extremely mobile even though your uncomfortable to avoid set backs like this. My leg hurts so bad I can barely hobble along so just another ailment to add to the start of my journey. Also was wondering if anyone has had painful trouble breathing? I've been short of breath and haven't been able to take a deep breath since surgery although I've still been doing my incentive spirometer. The left side mid ribs is the worst pain, with taking breaths, maybe the tubing or port area I'm not sure??
Cwalband 215 Posted June 19, 2013 I'm a newbie and I appreciate the heads up very much! I hope things get easier for you and things start to get better so you can start your journey! Best wishes to you, and hope you feel better! xx 1 ShantelleElaine reacted to this

Did they do that for you? Please keep us posted on your progress. I've been walking more now which is good for me as I am a post CVA and walk with a cane. I'm determined to walk more to avoid blood clots.
mrsto 2,925 Posted June 19, 2013 Regarding the breathing issue, I had it......bad! The first words out of my mouth when I woke up from surgery was "I can't breathe". And I had a hard time taking a deep breath for a good 2-3 weeks. It slowly improved, but it was an issue for longer than I expected. Did they do a hernia repair as well? Did they give you one of those plastic breathing gizmos with the ball inside.....to keep your lungs clear (can't remember what it's called)? So sorry you're having to deal with this. The surgery is enough all by itself, without the added issues. Please let us know how you're doing.
