HI I'm Kim and I am at the very beginning of this journey. I have an appt with my Dr. to request the surgery and get a referral to a surgeon. I am very excited but I don't even know if my insurance will cover it. We are at a new year July 1 so I don't know yet. I was covered under the old policy so hopefully it will on the new one. God wiling it will be Januaury. I am presently on Weight Watchers, started yesterday so I am on the diet process. I at one time was scheduled to the gastric bypass but found out a month before that I was pregnant. I'm glad I didn't get it done because I am a nurse and cared for those patients and there were a lot who had complications. I think banding is the right way for me to go. A friend did it but it was sucessful. I hope that doesn't happen to me. I look forward to sharing with you on this journey and any help or advice you can give me for prep would be greatly appreciated. Kim

HI I'm Kim and I am at the very beginning of this journey, WELCOME KIM..... I have an appt with my Dr. to request the surgery and get a referral to a surgeon. I am very excited but I don't even know if my insurance will cover it. You can call your HR person or even your insurance company and find out exactly what is in your policy in regards to WLS . Some insurances are now going to 1 WLS per lifetime :( so it would be a good idea to find out first an avoid disappointment And also this may play a part in your final decision as to what surgery you choose. We are at a new year July 1 so I don't know yet. I was covered under the old policy so hopefully it will on the new one. God wiling it will be Januaury. I am presently on Weight Watchers, started yesterday so I am on the diet process This is a Great idea, what you might also want to do is keep a record/ journal of all your that doing with WW. (meetings, food intake, exercise etc... Some times the insurance company wants a WL history prior to banding or any WLS for that matter.I at one time was scheduled to the gastric bypass but found out a month before that I was pregnant.Congratulations  I'm glad I didn't get it done because I am a nurse and cared for those patients and there were a lot who had complications. True with all WLS' I think banding is the right way for me to go. A friend did it but it was sucessful. I hope that doesn't happen to me. I look forward to sharing with you on this journey and any help or advice you can give me for prep would be greatly appreciated. Kim

Make a list of questions, take them to the Doctor's office with you or to the seminar. You will usually (depending on your doctor) be put through tests like Endoscopy, stress test, phys eval, 6 ,months before actual banding. So just keep researching/ asking questions. And good Luck with whatever decision you make.

Congratulations on taking the first step! I am a week away from my surgery and I can tell you the time does go fast. I started my journey 7 months ago. You may have requirements from your insurance carrier. Those are what make the time fly by.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
