6 weeks post op. Had my first fill but...

Recommended Posts

Before my first fill and after my surgery I felt hungry all the time. I also could eat what ever I wanted. Now I've had my first fill and its been 5 days. I still can eat whatever I want and if I am not careful I will over eat just like before. Total weight loss is 22 lbs since I started the whole process. But wondering if I need to just wait until my next fill or go back on the full liquid until my stomach shrinks a little more? Any suggestions?

I have found the more solid the food the fuller I fill quickly.

I could drinks shakes and mushy food allday long, but I try to

keep serving size to one cup at a time....

Be careful not to over do it!

It takes most people numerous fills before they have adequate Fluid in their band. It can be frustrating but it's a normal part of the process. Going back on the full liquid diet is a bad idea- you need the Vitamins and nutrients of real food and liquids will only make you hungrier.

As far as being able to eat whatever you want and being able to over eat- please realize that won't necessarily change even when you do have adequate Fluid in your band. The band's job is to allow you to be satisfied on much less food for much longer periods of time. It is there to control your hunger. The band isn't meant to physically stop you from eating anything.

Here's a link I think will help: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

Best wishes

I find I am hungry after 7 pm. And I usually get up in the middle of the night hungry still. I am trying to add more protien. I am getting at least 3-4 oz per meal, then I can eat 2 cups of vegtables after that. I am getting a little discouraged because I feel like I am not accomplishing anything. I also thing I have gained about 5 lbs from the original 22 lost.

Before my first fill and after my surgery I felt hungry all the time. :(We have all been in this same situation. I also could eat what ever I wanted Again we have all been there BUT...we fought for this surgery now let's use it to our advantage ;) Now I've had my first fill and its been 5 days. I still can eat whatever I want and if I am not careful I will over eat just like before.Well surgery + 5 days means your about 7-8 weeks out? I'd venture to say your going through Bandster HELL  IT STINKS!! no nice way of putting it ...Total weight loss is 22 lbs ANY loss is GREAT!! Congratulations :) since I started the whole process. But wondering if I need to just wait until my next fill Yes, I'd wait, your doctor might not even do another fill even if you wanted one :( This is where the MIND has to take charge and look at your options of getting in more dense Proteins (they will help to satisfy you longer) If you have to write out your calorie count and divide it up so that your eating more often NOT MORE during the day that might help. ;)or go back on the full liquid until my stomach shrinks a little more?, Shrinking your stomach isn't going to help, not if your hungry and your stomach is looking for nourishment. Good Luck, hope this helps!

I have to do liquids for 48 hours after a fill. I have had 2 fills post op and still can eat anything, but have noticed this time it does not take as long to get full and I stay full a little longer. Still not in green zone, but can see shades of lime so maybe next fill will do the trick for me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
