SCARED and FEELING LOST!!! HELP

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Lesia,

I was banded November 2011, and all is well(i think) my starting was 307 ibs I weighed yesterday at at 258 ib, I know I have a ways to go but I'm getting there

Here's the issue that I'm having 2 weeks I started feeling not myself(feet swelling, numbness in hands, light headed dizziness, sharp chest pains) So i go to my primary dr and a cardiologist and all is well but was pit back on blood pressure.... So per my dr advice I went back to my lap-band dr(true results az) and told them what was going on.

The nurse says we need to do a barium and an egd but we cant do it today.. But we should remove all your Fluid 10cc and schedule the other appointments to see if there is my band was slipped...

LOW AND BEHOLD

She had problems inserting into my port and 5 minutes later she says "got it" and begin to remove Fluid. IMMEDIATELY I begun to fill this pressure like feeling coming from my belly button up into my chest and BAM it sat there between my breast bone

The nurse says it should feel like a release but it never passed several minutes later I ask for them to call 911(they hesitated) but I was taken to the ER where they did a CT scan that showed ever thing was ok (but they could not tell me anything about my band ad referred me back to my lapbad dr

And Yes I woke up this morning still having discomfort between my breast bone(it feels like im being squeezed) and a slight pain in mu left side

I WOULD TRULY GRATEFUL for any information on this matter

I am sorry that I cant give you medical advice, but someone said something to me about the Vagal nerves (?) that run around that area and can cause the kind off issues you are talking about. Could they not see where you band was on the CT? Can you get a copy of that picture to take to your band doctor. I would ay get back into your band doc and get that egd and barium done. I hope that you feel better soon hon ((hug))

I wish I could help :( my prayers are with you and i would definitely demand to see your surgeon not just a PA or NP. I think it's also a great idea to take your CT films with you. You can request copies from the hospital, it is your right I have a copy.

Very strange that when they took Fluid out you felt pressure, normally removing the fluid would relieve pressure!

The fact you're having swelling in your feet and tingling in your hands makes me think there is something bigger than the band going on.

I'm glad you went to a cardiologist. Granted I'm newly off a stint in the ICU from blood clots in my legs so it's on my mind, but I'd request an ultra sound/doppler of your legs just be sure that isn't the problem. A lot of your symptoms sound like the ones I had.

Best wishes!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
