Who is tired of liquid protein drinks and broth...raise your hand??!!

Recommended Posts

Did not have to do liquid pre op, but had them for 3 weeks post op. All I really wanted was something, anything, I could just stick a fork into. I still use them now and again if I am rushed or traveling and don't want to bother with restaurants, etc.

I think I might be the only one that enjoys Protein shakes? Now, granted I haven't started the pre-op diet, but I'm not a huge Breakfast person. I'm also not sure if my surgon will allow me to have my normal Protein Shakes. I usually use almond milk, with a frozen banana and then add a variety of different things depending on what I want. I've made a mocha shake before, pineapple and peach, peach, berries, etc. I currently use Isopure low-carb powders. They come in a ton of different flavors, but I'm happy with the Dutch chocolate and vanilla. I can modify those a bit easier than Cookies and cream.

I can only imagine how difficult it's going to be to only consume Clear Liquids, and mushy foods. All I can say, is keep it up, it's a journey to a healthier you! You can totally do this! :)

I loved them too with all those yummy additions (especially bananas). I had one almost every day. But these are not the kind of shakes you get pre-op or post-op. At least, not with my clinic. And I just looked at the type of liquids I can have post-op and it says Protein shakes made without milk or fruit. Sounds pretty icky to me. I am looking into the Isopure high protein clear liquid drinks , but I don't know what flavor to buy. Would love hear suggestions from previous users!

Honestly, I haven't been sick of them at all! Weird I know. Vanilla per boxed premiere Protein from costco aren't bad. strawberry from GNC are good too. Both either 25 or 30 grams of protein. Nutraceutical summa has powder with low carbs and they have chic, vanilla, Cookies n crime, apple pie powders... All low carbs too , but a good variety. Another trick is Torino sugaring free syrups (cheapest at world market).. I put that in my powder shakes and my iced coffee to give me some zing w/o the calories! Yummy! Try it, you will love it!

I was able to have oatmeal thins morning WOO HOOO ! ! ! One more week then on to regular foods. I could only hold like a half of cup and it felt like I was going to burst. I got hungry again about 2 pm so it lasted quite a long time.

I really like nectar by Syntax... they have tons of flavors, you can get a 12 sample pack by calling them 866-333-7403 extension 803 for $13.99 shipped then you can decide what flavor you like best before buying the 2lb container. I feel that they mix best in a blendy ball container. I found that drvita.com had the cheapest price with free shipping. I also tried the Unjury and felt they had a weird after taste. The key is finding a few flavors you like so you can mix it up. But I'm on board with moving on to something more solid too!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
