Elektralite 0 Posted May 4, 2006 Forgive me if this is covered elsewhere but I'm sick with the flu and sweating bullets as I write (yes, I'm going to bed immediately after this post). I'm scheduled to see my primary on Friday to discuss the band procedure and get referred to the surgeon. My doctor has been on me for a long time to consider WLS, and now that I know my insurance will cover banding I'm serious about doing it (the bypass was just too drastic for me). My question is this - now that you've done it.. would you do it again, knowing what you know and have lived through now? Please be honest with me, I need all the information I can get before I do this. Thank you much in advance. El
Ms. Vicki 0 Posted May 4, 2006 Without a doubt getting the band is the best decision I've ever made.
Cheri 0 Posted May 4, 2006 My feet are thanking me every day! They love that they don't have to carry around the load they used to, so, yes, I would do it over and over again (otherwise, my feet might boycott!) Oh, yeah, my husband is much happier too (for so MANY reasons, but, that's another discussion...) It isn't a magic ring, though. It's a tool that you have to learn to use -the knowledge you are gaining now is like reading the owner's manual before using the tool for the first time, so you're on the right track!!!hehe Keep doing your research and keep your positive mindeset!! Good luck! ~cheri

Elektralite 0 Posted May 4, 2006 Thank you all for your responses. Of course, this is exactly what I was hoping to hear. I'm 32 years old, have had high BP since 23, was gestational diabetic with my daughter (so Type II is just down the road waiting), suffer from depression and low self-esteem, and am generally achy most of the time. This isn't good, and frankly, I'm afraid of what lies ahead of me if I stay on this current path. I'm scared to death of surgery, but the alternative is a whole lot scarier. I want very much to be a normal healthy person, and after many tears and good old fashioned on my knees prayers, this is the route I've been lead to. I'm glad to hear that this has been a good tool for so many of you. It gives me hope and dare I say it.. a dream to believe in. So, I will quit rambling and get on to reading the forum posts to help better educate myself. Thank you all so much for sharing with me. El
gentlespirit 1 Posted May 10, 2006 I'm 3 months out from surgery and while my losing is really slow, I would DEFINITELY do it again. Part of it is the weight loss (30 pounds so far) and part of it is believing that I'm worth the money and effort I'm putting into this. I have more energy and have even begun walking for exercise again, and most importantly, I have hope that I will be healthy and comfortable in the foreseeable future.
