GoingforGoal 1,734 Posted June 17, 2013 I assume you are pre-band. The band consists of two primary parts, the actual band that surrounds the esophageal/stomach pouch to cause restriction and than there's the port typically sutured to the abdominal wall. After the band is surgical placed, we go to doctor's periodically for fills. Fills are when the dr. accesses the port with a needle and injects saline into the band to create additional restriction as needed. We are attempting to achieve "green" status which is basically the right amount of restriction that allows for the least amount of symptoms, maximal satiety and assistance with Portion Control. Everyone's 'green' is different and your dr will help you find that zone through q&a at each of your assessments. 2 stept04 and Kime-lou reacted to this
Kime-lou 648 Posted June 17, 2013 the above is correct- don't worry about pain with the needle for fills- it honestly doesn't hurt. It feels odd, but not really pain. Every doc is different, but mine does fills with floro. Floro fills allows him to see my band and my tummy. I drink a little bit of the white stuff and he can see it go down into the pouch and through the band. If it refluxes then he knows I am to tight, if it goes through fast, I need more Fluid. It is goes through in 3 seconds, then it's right. With this type of fill I have never had a problem. So you may want to ask, what type of fills the surgeon does.
