Help! I can't get Calcium down

Recommended Posts

I am 6 weeks out from my surgery and just had my first fill yesterday. I had a hard time getting my Calcium pills down before the fill, and I'm afraid to even try them now. The chocolate ones seem awfully high in calories.

Can anyone give me suggestions?

I feel the same way. The CVS brand of the chewable ones is 20 calories each and I'm supposed to take two. I just count them in my daily amounts. Haven't found a better solution.

I do the CVS chewables. They don't list the calories, but I like them. Calcium Chewables 600mg Plus, with Vit D & Minerals.

I just bought these today at CVS. Although, I'm sure you can get them cheaper at costco. The nurse at my doctor's office told me about them, because I don't like the chews or liquid.

Thank you everyone, I went to my CVS to see if I could get them, and the pharmacist said she could order them for me.

So, I am going to give those a try. In the meantime, I bought a pill crusher, and put the crushed pills in applesauce... ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? That was like eating applesauce with sand it in !! OMGoodness!!!

I've been taking the petite Calcium pills since Saturday, and they're working out very well! And I'm glad, because the other options we starting to make me gag. Even the chocolate chews.

I love the Kirkland brand (Costco) sugar free calcium chews. 20 cals each and really good, taste like a tootsie roll !

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
