Dr's right, it's normal, ;) medications can and do cause dry mouth.

If it's really bothersome you can use a room vaporizer, suck on sugar free candies, (stimulates saliva flow) and try breathing through your nose not your mouth. But you went through major surgery WHEW .. Sounds like your getting enough fluids ;) .Of course if you start running a high grade fever , feel ill call your doctor. Welcome to the Banded side

Just make sure you are getting enough fluids, I went to my GP for a different reason one week after my surgery. She was checking my mouth, eyes, etc. And said.."you are dehydrated" I truly thought I was drinking enough. She made me go directly to the store to buy some Soup. And, lo and behold....with in 24hrs I felt better!

I am BIG on sugar free hard candy in my mouth, especially I was told not to drink for 60 minutes after eating! I truly depend on them to cleanse my mouth and keep me "busy". My favorites are SF Lifesavers -5flavors, SF Jolly ranchers hard candy and Brach's cinnamon (sf).

Try them, trust me!

God Bless

Dry mouth is a problem for me. Ever try sugar free popsicles? I get up in the morning and before I grab the coffee pot I get a popsicle in my mouth and then turn around and make the coffee. I eat 3 or 4 popsicles per day to help with the dry mouth and it is also a good source of liquid to help prevent dehydration. Yes, they can be addictive. Anyone know of a Popsicle Anonymous meeting I can attend?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
