Hi - begging start of my journey

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I've been lurking on this site on & off for the past year and thought I would finally say hi. I attempted last year to get approved for lapband with a BMI of 39 with no comorbidities but I was told no. Was definitely discouraged - I said forget this & tried WW and saw little success - actually gained . After talking it over with a friend who had the WLS - encouraged me to try again this year ... This time I met the 40 BMI - only time I've been thankful for being fat. Last week I meet with the surgeon, in total agreement that I'm a good candidate, heard back yesterday to start scheduling the pretests that my insurance requires - meeting with the dietitian & psych guy in the next 2-3 weeks. I feel I am now headed the right direction & I'm glad to hear about everyone's journeys - what a great support this forum is. I've gained my worst weight the past 7 years and I feel like I'm a thinner girl stuck in a fat body.

I sent my application for the surgery in today. I'm staying positive that I'll be affirmed. With a BMI of 40.2 shouldn't be a problem. Have only told 2 close friends about my decision to do this. Haven't told my kids or my parents yet. Waiting until I have a date. Scheduled for a stress test on Tuesday. I'm anxious to get this thing done and start losing! I have anxiety about the diet & food choices. Oh, just full of emotions.

Hi panehum - welcome to beginning start of your journey!! Good luck!! I've only told 3 people - my husband, friend who has been banded and my best friend, I plan on telling my parents as well & that's it. I'm excited to actually be headed in the right direction towards making myself healthy.

:D Welcome to our healthy journey! I have never been sorry I had my LapBand placed in 2006. My boarderline diabetes, swollen legs, and high blood pressure have gone away, The only regret I might have is I should have had more knowledge or training on nutrition. Be happy and follow your medical personnel's directions and walk, walk & walk. Love yourself, wear a smiley face & your future will become healthy & bright. Happy sparking!

Had a set back today. Among a couple of other findings I learned my insurance has some hoops that will make me wait at least 6 mos more 'till I can get scheduled. Probably nothing new to any of you, but I am truly disappointed. Nothing that won't make me stronger and more resolved. I believe that an obstacle is nothing more than a challenge. I accept the challenge & will prevail.

I'm a newbie here. I'm also in the beginning my Journey. This Thursday I have my Endoscopy and on Saturday is my sleep study. Can't wait to get approved and a date set. I'm really nervous and excited at the same time. Have not told many people either. Also waiting till I have the surgery. This site has been so great.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
