First few weeks? Failure?

Recommended Posts

Hi. I hate this question so please don't yell at be about everyone is different. I want to do well!

I have surgery may 31st, lost 10 lbs quick (the water), and pretty much nothing for 8 days. It should be too erly to plateau (after 1 week of loss nothing for week 2)

I'm eating about 800-900 calories on soft foods, mostly from Greek yogurt and sf pudding. I'm getting about 80-90g of Protein and walking 30 min per day (port and hernia repair still hurt or I'd do more).

Advice?? I tried to cut out sugar except what's in the milk products.

Are you logging your food to come up with the calorie count? How about cottage cheese? Depending on the SF pudding it could simulate a sugar high. Also I recommend taking your measurements at least every couple of weeks, you could be losing inches. Ten pounds in 2 weeks is great, so don't get discouraged. You are way too early to declare failure! Best wishes!

Thanks :-) I agree with the pudding. It was a flavor godsend but no nutritive value. If the 10kbs were real I'd be ECSTATIC! I know they are the fat cell Water loss though. I was looking forward to week 2...only wanted 2lbs off!...nothing.

I am logging my calories. I'm a "lightweight" so I'm not sure if its normal or I should cut calories.

Thanks for helping!!!

not sure why you are feeling like a failure at not quite 3 weeks post op that is kinda silly if you ask me.....you are losing weight according to your body and you need to realize, understand and accept that the first month is for healing inside..you had recent major surgery..just because the scale is not moving does not mean the band is not working or you are not doing good...my opinion is stay off the scale so much, follow the rules like you have as you are doing great, and understand, losing inches means your losing... proud of you...now its your turn to say your proud of you...

Thanks. I guess I'm more disappointed than feeling like a failure. If I randomly said I lost 8-10 lbs in three weeks, I'd be happy. I haven't lost ANYTHING since the immediate post op shock. On the calories it seems I should have lost more.

Anyway, I might be feeling a little down because I befriended a VSG surgery the same day and she's down 18lbs, but more importantly she's lost consistently for weeks. I feel like I'm eating too much for this early out.

What was your experience?

The worse thing you can do is compare yourself to anyone else.. the sleeve is a different type of surgery and may allow the patient to lose quickly but I have several in my support group who have had the sleeve and they have difficulty with malapsorption and dumping... I am sure not everyone who had the sleeve is the same either... concentrate on healing and don't worry about # of lbs..

Try not to eat the puddings . Maybe some Greek yogurt an a spoon full of ur Protein Powder to flavor it. Like everyone said a loss is a loss. Chin up its to early to be upset.

if you are losing (inches) then you are losing no matter what the scale says or doesnt say... to gain, you must take in more calories than you burn off...are you doing this?? if not, stop worrying

I was at a stand still for Weeks 2 and 3, I swear I was perfect! Then it just started falling off, I think my body need to catch up.

At the beginning not everyone loses so actually you are doing great. This is the time when you need to follow the rules and practice. Like the no drinking and chewing, and cutting small pieces taking 20 min And anyother rules your dr gives you.

Everyone is different I know women lose it slower than men do also because of hormones and how much weight did you need to lose that is a big factor . I am a guy and was at 380 before the band and I had my surgery may 23 the weight dropped off me like the first two weeks I lost 24 pounds since then only 6 pounds and I bet I am much more overweight than you too so I think you are doing about normal.Dont worry what everyone else is doing your friend could lose it all now and in another month you could just blow past her important thing is not to give up and stay motivated don't set a goal too high set a monthly goal not a weekly goal and remember be realistic.

I predict you'll start seeing your weigh drop soon...and then it will be "off to the races." I had a stall post-op...most of us do. But keep doing what you are doing and your body will readjust. Often your body will hang on to the weight after a drop such as yours (10 lbs) just trying to figure itself out for a bit...and then zoom....weight loss continues. Don't give up...ride out the stall. Each day you are getting nearer to breaking that plateau.

Sounds like you are doing great. The pudding thing can be an issue. I used it for awhile, but now I buy a pudding at my surgeon's office that is made for us. Don't like it as well as the Jello puddings, but it is not as habit forming either. I do what I can a 2 pound bounce for a few days each week and then I notice a weight loss. 2 up and 2 down and then finally 3 or 4 pounds off. This can go on for a few days or a couple of weeks. Was banded 4 months ago today and have lost 44 pounds post surgery with 16 pre op so doing good. Sounds like you are doing well yourself. I just have to remember to to compare myself to others. Have friend, my buddy in surgery, who had by pass one month before I had the band. She is ahead of me in weight loss, but that is her program. We work to encourage each other through the highs and lows and both understand this is a tool we must work. Best of luck in you journey.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
