Hi everyone, I've been thinking about lapband for a few years now and finally decided to go for it. I'm scheduled for 07/09 and am really nervous about it. I have about 140 lbs to lose and am hoping the band will work for me. I have a few concerns about what to expect right after the surgery. I'm a pretty tough girl with a high pain tolerance so I'm thinking I'll be OK. I'll be posting some before pics so I can hopefully look back in a year and see my progress. There seems to be a lot of wonderful supportive knowledgeable people here so it looks like I came to the right place. Any suggestions on what I should be doing before the surgery so that everything goes well? I want to make sure I give this a fair shot. I have been overweight for the last 13 years, strangely the same amount of time since I met my husband :)

I love to cook and pre planning meals wont be a big deal for me. I'm lactose intolerant so I I stay way from ice cream, pizza, creamy sauces etc. Sugar is a big problem for me. If I have cake in the house It will call to me until I eat it. I try not to buy any sweets because If they're in the house I will eat them. There are a lot of kids in my family so we're at a bithday party practically every month and I have yet to pass ona slice of cake.

Wish me luck!!

For the lactose intolerant, I mix my Protein powders in Almond milk... tastes great, check for a powder without lactose though.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I had my pre-op tests today and meeting with the anesthesiologist. He was concerned that the EKG showed heart palpitations. I had gone to the emergency room about 3 years ago with heart palpitations and I couldn't catch my breath. After many tests there and with a cardiologist I was told everything was fine. Now I'm waiting for the hospital to get all my records and review them. Has anyone ever had palpitations? Could it be related to my weight? I'm a little bummed and hope it doesn't interfere with my surgery date.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
