Hello all,

Well I'm on day 2. The surgery went very well. The Dr also corrected a hernia that I had no idea i had. I felt pretty good yesterday. The incision where the port is placed is swollen today. My dr said I can ice so that is helping a little. Ice has become my new best friend. I love chewing on ice. The cold feels good on my sore throat and it helps to keep me hydrated. As far as gas pain..both sides of my neck hurt. I'm not sure if that is normal. My upper back hurts but the dr said it would because of the hernia repair. Breathing is a little tough. That is also from the hernia. Im using a spirometer to help with that. I'm pretty sore all over. Legs, arms, neck, back and incisions. liquids are going well. I can't really have more than 3-4oz at a time but I feel very satisfied after that amount. With all this being said I am glad the surgery is over. The pain is manageable and completely worth it to me. Congrats to my fellow June bandsters and good luck to those with dates coming up!!

P.S. As for pain medicine I'm alternating taking Tylenol and Advil. I also have an anti nausea patch.

Congrats on your surgery - welcome to the other side :)

Some of the pains you mention can be related to the way they positioned your body during the surgery. Like.....neck and possibly some back pain. Aside from my actual surgical pain, my neck and lower back were really bad for a good week.

Regarding the use of Advil......did your doctor say this was okay? Most all of us were instructed to stop taking any type of NSAID; aspirin, Advil, Aleve, etc. Tylenol is fine, but the Advil can be an issue.

Ixnay on the Advil per my doc, but yours may allow it.

My Dr instructed me to take Tylenol and Ibuprofen. He said ibuprofen isn't good to take long term. But it's ok in the beginning. No other pain meds so I've been taking them very regularly. Haha!

Also, I'm not hungry at all. I'm forcing down Water and a few oz of Protein shakes. After a couple oz I'm full!!!

I think I'm fighting head hunger though. Every commercial on tv has food. My husband made dinner for himself and my son and it looked amazing. Good thing I'm not hungry. ;-)

I know this too shall pass! I'm excited to be on this new path!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
