Bandster hell

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone...i'm soo upset. I will be 2 months post op on June 16th 2013. My birthday is June 14th. This friday. I only lost 17 pounds. I've been eating a lot of fast food lately. I feel like a failure. I've been telling my mind ok tomorrow we are starting the diet. When it comes down to it i just let my self go. I feel like i have no restraints in my intake. I'm so upset at my self I feel like i've let my self down. There was no point of me going through the pain and i should of gotten the sleeve instead. I feel like a loser. Any advice on to what i should do?

Hi ! Ok you let yourself go now shake it off and move on. Your not a failure. You have made some bad choices. Now find your inner strength and make better ones. Whether you have the band or the sleeve I don't think that is the issue. When was your last fill? Why do you think your doing this ?

2 months...hang in there...it's still early...what's 2 months in the entire realm of a changed lifestyle....

It took me 6 months to get in the "Groove" so to speak, and even then another 6 months of learning to live in that magical place.....

2 months in, after 1st fill, began to gain weight...was told in order to loose weight I need to count calories, measure portions, keep a journal...all fine things, BUT...I didn't need surgery to do that...I was convinced it was a big waste of time, after all the pre-op hoops I had to jump through, testing, 6 month diet, the anxiety, $$ spent.....it was a big major let down to learn it was just another diet...

BOY WAS I WRONG!!!!!!! Best decision I could have ever made...literally changed, and SAVED my life....only regret is that I did not do it years sooner....none the less, I'm 61 going on 35.....BRING IT!!!!

It sounds like you've lost your motivation. The sleeve won't fix that. You will need to do the work with all of these surgeries, and looking toward the sleeve is a bit of a cop out. I'm not saying that I don't understand the frustration and the drive to eat bad things. But you've only been banded a short time, and it doesn't sound like you've given it enough of a chance.....before throwing your arms up saying that you should have gone with the sleeve. NONE of these surgeries do the work for you. Hell, I wish they did!! It's hard.......I get it.

I agree with bindi above..... shake it off and move forward. And try & get in touch with why you're trying to sabotage the surgery.

Mellstav - we all have times when we veer off the path. It's frustrating, and it's scary. Given our past with food, we never know if a little step off the path, is going to be a 1000 mile trip off the path. I've had my moments as well, but every morning you wake up is a new day. Maybe go into your doctor's office & meet with the nutritionist. And if you need a fill, maybe that would help. But only you can take care of your mindset.

Good luck....

Create a meal plan and follow it. I find myself leaning toward fast food when I'm hungry...my kids are hollering because they are hungry and I have no plan. Two months is nothing. I say that because I'm at about two months also. This is HARD to change (in my case) 39 years of habits...Don't expect to break all your bad ones in just two months. Keep going! You can do this!!! Give yourself a second chance as your birthday present! ;)

I concur with B52. It does get better, much better. I was convinced that the Lapband was a huge waste of time and money. It took well over four months for my band to function. Now, it's almost magical. I have no real hunger, I am satisfied with very little. I'm down over 60 pounds. I couldn't be more pleased. The band does work and will work for you too. Just give it time and be faithful in your follow up appointments. It will happen for you too. Just don't give up on yourself or the band.

I agree, the Sleeve won't fix the issue. In fact, none of the WLS surgeries will. They can't stop you from eating the wrong food nor can they stop you from eating too much if you really want to. There's a saying around here "the band goes around your stomach, not your brain". Unfortunately, you're dealing with brain issues not stomach issues.

You're only 2 months post op. I'm guessing you're not in the Green Zone yet. Once you are, it does get a lot easier. When you're not hungry all the time you lose your preoccupation with food. When you're not preoccupied with food, you're far less likely to impulse eat (fast food) or eat too much.

Understanding is another really important part of this journey. Have a look at this link, I think it will really help you understand what the band does to help you as well as what is expected of you: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

Is there a support group near you? That might help you considerably, too.

Best wishes.

I haven't had my fill yet because the doctor didn't want to do it. I don't eat enough and i had an appointment with him at 2pm and i spent the whole day without eating sometimes i have to force myself to eat because i don't get hungry.

Based on what you're saying, I guess I'm confused by your original post. Why would you wish for the sleeve, when you're not hungry, and have to force yourself to eat? Fast food isn't the best choice, but if you portion it & account for it, then you're not doing as badly as you think. By your original post, it sounded like you were eating a bit out of control....like, super sizing your meals at the drive through.

If you're not hungry, the band is doing it's job. What is it that you think the sleeve will do, that the band isn't?

I'm stuck at my current weight. When i do decide to force myself into eating i go for fast foods instead of healthy ones. Thats my problem and i'm not loosing anymore. Thats whats frustrating me. I guess the sleeve would of been the same the crap.

It sounds like you really need to see both a nutritionist and a counselor. No WLS it's going to magically make you eat healthy. Our issues with food are very real and sometimes we need very real help to deal with them.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
