Avascular Necrosis

Recommended Posts

I know this isn't really relevant to lap band (other than not being able to exercise and therefore not being able to lose much weight), but I'm just curious if there's anyone on here that has suffered from AVN. I've been having a lot of hip pain for the past few weeks and have made an appointment to see an orthopedist, but the doctor I saw at Patient First mentioned AVN as a possible diagnosis. I know it's not terribly likely but I'm seeming to have the same symptoms. I'm wondering what symptoms people who've had it had.

What are your symptoms? I don't have AVN, but I have a lot of hip pain issues.

I have pain in my left groin area, almost like broken bone pain? I'm not sure quite how to explain it but it's intense at times and hurts when I walk, sit, bend over, stand up...pretty much all the time unless I take ibuprofen. And then when I'm resting it hurts/aches on the top of my thigh and into my knee. And that's gets really intense if I don't take ibuprofen. It's stiffens up too. :/

Yeah - that doesn't sound good. Have you had an X-ray and MRI of your spine?

I know :( I've had an x-ray of my pelvic area, but am waiting for my appointment to see an orthopedist to get an MRI later this month.

I have a pretty bad herniated disc in my lower spine. It plays all kinds of havoc with my hips and left leg. Also, when you walk and compensate for the pain, it can throw something else off; like a knee or the opposite side of the original pain. I've had the groin pain, too. Sometimes if I get up from a chair, it's like the whole thing has slipped out of place. All of this stems from my lower back. Weird.... And very draining :(

I hope for you, whatever it turns out to be, isn't anything TOO serious. I hope it's correctible with physical therapy.....something along those lines.

Oh wow, that's no fun at all :( well I hope you're able to get some relief for your pain! And thanks, I hope it's not too serious either.

Thanks..... I have an epidural scheduled in a couple of weeks, so hopefully I'll get a break. I've had them before; they don't last very long (relatively speaking), but I'll take what I can get!

Please let me know the outcome. I'm interested to hear.

Good luck - hang in there......

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
