I have been reading here re the pre op diet I have been on mine for the last 10 days or so surgery is this sat I have lost about 8 lbs but there is no Protein Shakes on my diet it is 3 meals all containing food no sauces or salad dressings its a little dry but otherwise it's fish or chicken veg or salad with toast for Breakfast tea and coffee. They called it the liver reducing diet so the surgery can be done key hole. I am having it done privately in Ireland.

Welcome. Your pre-op diet is very similar to mine except I am not allowed toast/bread/grains of any kind and I am allowed to have a Meal Replacement shake. I am on day 1.

My pre-op diet was pretty much the same. It was 1200 calories/day; high Protein, low fat & carb.

True, all these pre-op diets seem different. Mine is two shakes a day, 4-5 oz of Protein (meat form), veggies, salad and some fruit. It's working... 8 lbs down. By the way, how do I change my profile picture?! lol It's not working!!

I am just about to start day 10.. Spoke to the clinic yesterday re shakes to make sure I wasn't making a mistake they are all about natural foods and making all from fresh no processed even the liquid diet after surgery contains no shakes it has a lot of fruit juice and Soups that I can make myself and fruit smoothies so kind of glad as I yoyo the lipotrim diet for years and hate the shakes. Roll on Saturday

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
