uh oh.... What's this pain!?

Recommended Posts

I am 3 weeks post op and have been feeling back to normal!! All of a sudden today I have pain in my left side, in the area that my port is....It hurts to twist or bend. I DID move some furniture today and I'm kinda freaking out that I may have messed something up....any thoughts? I go to the dr tomorrow for my first fill, a fill that I am SO looking forward to since I am starving all of the time and haven't lost weight since my pre op diet :/ I hope and pray that he doesn't say that I messed up and can't have the fil....

I am two weeks post-op and like you I almost fell in the kitchen the other day and since then have had a sharp pain when I twist or turn or bend it is on my right side. I'm a nervous nelly about it, but it seems to be getting better each day. Maybe it's the same for you, it will get better each day. If it gets worse I guess you should call the Doc.

I tripped up the stairs about 2 weeks post op and strained my belly, ended up with tenderness for a few days. You've probably pulled the muscle the port is stitched to and it may be a little swollen. Maybe try and icebag to the belly for a bit...I liked that post op. Bring it up with your doc tomorrow. Good Luck! I have another 2 weeks (total of 6) before I am eligible for my first fill.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
