I paid for it privately as a public patient you could be on a 5 year waiting list or if you are insured ( I am not) you can have it done under some policies I think you have to meet some criteria. It cost 7500 privately and this includes one year of follow up fills and check ups. I have a 10cc band with my first ck in 1month. I live near Galway it is a beautiful part of the country.

Hey tracie, so how did it go... My surgery was on the 13th as well... All went well, nurses, doctor and staff were so supportive , professional and kind. In the us , I was not eligible for insurance so I pay privately as well. I started my first visit in mid may... And a month later I had my surgery.. Even if I was eligible with my insurance I would have had to wait 6 months to be approved... Anyway hope All is well , Ron

Tracie' date='

I've been to Ireland 18 times. I have family all over Galway (well my late husband's family anyway).

How do they handle the Lapland in Ireland? I know they have socialized medicine but I know there is private pay as well.[/quote']

Hi dawalsh

I live near Galway a beautiful part of the country. There was a few ways to get the lap band done here the public system which would be free has a waiting list if about 5 years. ( in which you could have a lot more problems before surgery date comes around) 2nd the people who are insured can also get it done in private hospitals if they meet certain criteria. Then there is the private clinic in which you pay yourself this is what I did at a cost of 7500 which includes a full year of refills and check ups.

Hi Ron

I also had my First visit mid may and done a month later. How are you feeling since the surgery. I got home yesterday and I feel like I have been hit by a bus very sore around the chest area and I would have a very high pain threshold so a little worried that I can't take deep breaths easily. Other than that I am not hungry and I hope that feeling lasts forever.

Hey tracie,

I still have some abdominal cramping, but the shoulder pain is gone, I have not needed pain meds for the last two days, so It is bearable..... I went for my first longer walk about 2 miles, and today I am going to try the treadmil at the gym.....

If I maybe a little crude, I took gas aid strip on a regular basis, as well I took a dose of Miralax, both did wonder for my pain level and cramping, you might like ot try ... let me know, be well, R

I had my surgery on Friday and although its not constant, I do get this tight feeling in my chest every so often. I'm pretty sure my band is wide open and I'm on liquids, but could I be doing something wrong (drinking too fast or too much) or do you just think that is common post op soreness or just swollen insides?

Yes I think it is still to do with post op swelling and trapped gas I don't have a sore shoulders but I do get pain between the shoulder blades on my back went for a few short walks yesterday which seemed to help going to try a longer walk today. I think drinking a lot is important to keep hydrated .

Hi all the best to you on this exciting journey. My husband and I are going to Canada on the 1st of sept as a delayed honeymoon. We got married last year and due to other issues we had to delay honeymoon till this year. My 1st goal is to have 2 stone off before Canada .

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
