I attended my info session tonight' date=' so I'm in the very early stages of getting banded. I keep reading things similar to what you've stated and what confuses me is that if it's completely up to me to control my volume of food and I'm still able to eat a large plate of food with the band, why get the surgery? I was hoping the band would control the amount I could eat and that it would be up to me to choose healthier foods ...[/quote']

Because the band will control your hunger and allow you to be satisfied on much less food for much longer periods of time.

There is a link in my signature, have a look I think it will help you considerably.

I had my first fill today. I don't like needles' date=' so the idea of getting a needle in my belly really freaked me out before I got there.

My doctor always does the first fill in the radiology department of the hospital in front of the fluroscope....he puts a little in, I drink the shake, he checks out how it flows. Not enough, here's a little more. Drink some more, another check of the fluroscope, looks good. You are finished.

"Ah, doc, you going to take that needle out of my gut now?"

"Relax there buddy, I'm getting you a Band-Aid"

After he was done, I asked how much saline he put in. His answer was simple, "enough"

When I asked him again, he told me that I am losing weight just fine, the amount we put in doesn't really matter......you are progressing just perfectly. Everyone is different, we cannot compare your fill to another person's fill. But if you must know, 4cc.

I think his answer was just right. We each have our own body type, and we trust the doctor to know better than us. He did the easy part, a little stick of a needle today, the rest is up to me for the next 40 years.[/quote']

Let me know how you do on this fill after you have the fluoro fill done! I go Friday to get mine done!

Bottom line...it's all about loosing weight..whether you rely on the band or rely on your own will power....

For mr, the band does control how uch I eat...it is physically impossible to over eat..even so called sliders....and the food does sit in my pouch, I can tell by how long it takes before I can sip liquids whether my pouch still has food in it or not and is clear.......this I say from experience, not what others have told me....

But it really does not matter that much since I am never hungry in the first place...24/7, not just between meals as some experience....the band is there 24/7, so it does it's job 24/7

Good Luck....hope you find what works best for you...

Wow, your situation sounds a bit messy. I've not been real happy with my doctor, but he at least he does do my fills and never seems to miss with the needle. Also, I like his method of doing fills... he overfills, has me drink Water, and backs the fill out until I feel the Water go down. Really like that style a lot better than doctors who put in a set amount.

So, I would be frustrated if I were you too. But, is there anything you can really do about it? I suppose you could try and find another weight loss surgeon in your area to do fills. Probably not worth the trouble though.

I am currently way in the red zone and recently moved to NC the DR I found refused to take ANY liquid out of my band until I had an upper GI then they have some crazy rule that they do fills 1x a month. I travel and the day they do it will rarely work for me. When they did the upper GI (Monday) they said my band was way over restricted and that the radiologist would call the surgeon to see if they could get me in before this Thursday... no call from my surgeons office. Knowing my luck I will go tomorrow and he will not listen to me and want to take too much out. I am in High Point NC and the Dr is Dr Dasher.. does anyone know any Doc's in this area who understand the lap band and don't put ridiculous restrictions on you. I have had by band for 5 years lost over 160 lbs. feel like I know what I need as unfill and don't like waiting more than 2 weeks to meet some Docs crazy schedule to get help.

Kim,

I think I did pretty well. No major issues, I was on a liquid diet the rest of that day. The next morning my wife made me my normal scrambled egg and half a piece of toast for Breakfast. I couldn't finish either of those.....and I felt too full.

I reduced my food intake and all is well. I am down 4.2 pounds since the morning of my fill.....that was 5 days ago.

How was your fill on Friday?

Ron

Hey catlady0626

Hay I feel what your saying but a slight difference. For me that is I got banded on 1/28/13 weighing in at 257lbs . And the day be for yesterday I went in for my forth fill and I was hopein for 1cc in my band that would bring me up to 6cc... But before this visit my last visit was was a shock yet a let down;( I found that my pouch stretched !!! But it was not all bad like one size up .. I never ate the stuff I was told to !!! I'm trying to start now! .. But I lost about 50lbs so far I weigh in as of today 210lbs;) but I do work 80hrs a week 12hr shift and push myself to the gym every other day .. So anyways my dr. Visit the other day I found out that my band did not want a fill she was only able to get 2.5 in me !!?? And the my pouch stretched another size up ;0 I'm heart broken ...;( but I'm not giving up.. I just turned 26 on the 12 this month so I can't give up:/ .. But anyways that little fill it messed me all up I think u might have to go back cuz everything I take down gets stuck and comes right back up;(( not a good feeling it sucks .. So no worries no need to rush it ;) it'll happen

By the way I'm maddie and I live in Albuquerque if you live out here ..I'm always here to be a friend ;) hope it gets better for you;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
