I think I experienced my first hot flash yesterday in the afternoon. Kinda came and whoosh. So, I am 47, is it too early for me to start having hot flashes? (hub said I got hot after him being gone 3 days)..men GO figure....I also see (supplements on tv) to help with them, are they worth spending the money on?

Hey pretty lady, it's not too early to start having them unfortunately. Your doctor can run some blood tests to see if you are in menopause. Those supplements do sound amazing though. :)

I don't have them every night, but sometimes it is like, where is the cold Water shower and off go the covers. They can run blood tests on me to find out? really?

CG - you are perimenopausal. Not fun! This is the beginning of the roller coaster that can last a few years. Everyone is different in the level of discomfort they experience, and the ages vary. At 47, you are right at that time when the changes start to happen; exactly what you're talking about. At some point, you'll most likely start to notice changes in your period; maybe skips a month, or maybe comes twice in one month, etc. If you've been regular all your life, this can seem weird. Then, at some point, they just stop all together.

I can't comment too much on the supplements (I use an estrogen patch), but at this early stage, it's certainly worth giving a try. You can buy iCool at Target....or the pharmacy. There are many others, too. If things get really bad, your doc can put you on mild hormone replacement. There is so much mixed info on hormones, but they work really well when the peri or post menopausal symptoms become too disruptive. After my hysterectomy, it became ridiculous! Flashing ALL fricken day long, and trouble staying asleep. Yep - love my estrogen patch!! Like someone hit Control-Alt-Delete on the hot flash keyboard :P

Hate to admit it but I started the hot flashes and all the other "fun" when I was 41 (now 44). My mom was only in her late 30's and I remember her standing outside in the cold Canadian winter in nothing but a light cotton nightgown with steam coming off her and finally understand why. I am on a prescription for the mood swings and it helps with the night sweats too. I haven't tried anything else but I have heard some of the herbal remedies have some benefit.

Men are funny lol. I sadly went through my changes when I was 38 because I had to have a radical hysterectomy due to ovarian cancer so I had hot flashes overnight because my doctor said I couldn't have replacement hormone therapy. I feel for you, and technically your hubby is right, you're probably hot because you have a great new body not because you hadn't seen him for a few days lol!

I didn't get hot flushes I got cold ones instead. I also got palpitations which I thought were probably menopause related but the Dr's refused to concur, instead they ran a battery of tests - holter monitor, ultrasound, stress echo, the results of which were all fine so my theory must have been correct.

I have been using Patches now for about 2 months and the difference is subtle but I just seem to feel better in general. Less aches and pains and stiffness! Not flushing( hot or cold) and no palpitations although the new BP meds they put me on prior to the Patches seem to have fixed those. What they haven't done is changed my libido or lack thereof...........

YES - palpitations! I would get them about 20 seconds before the flash came on. Glad to say, those stopped along with the heat. It was very strange; sort of like a quick panic attack, without any apparent reason. Then I became aware that every time it happened, the flash would shortly follow.

Yes ma'am. They typically run FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone), Testosterone and Luteinizing Hormone tests. Your OB/GYN or PCP can order these tests.

Power surges!

49 and thought I was just about finished with menopause but in the past couple of weeks I've started with night flushes - already had to wake hubby so I could change the sheets one night.

It's just a fact of life in being a woman. Fortunately there are medical options out there to help us through it.

I beg to differ with nothing being fun about menopause - NO MORE PERIODS! May not be fun but hallelujah! I made it through the hot flashes for 4 years - no supplements - and would not trade them for PMS for anything!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
