I have never had problems with food depression before meaning that if ever I was feeling sad or just down and out or just blah I would never eat myself into a stupor but for some reason I can't figure out whyI have been eating everything in sight maybe becauseI know that I'm getting surgery and I just figure hey might as well eat with you can now while you still can but at 5 foot three and 260 pounds this is the heaviest I have ever been in my life my surgery isn't all the way until September I was trying to lose a little bit of weight before I even started surgery and I know that I will when I have to go on my pre-opt liquid diet for that first week or two but even especially now I can't even picture myself eating nothing but liquid all I know is that I can't freaking wait for my surgery I have never been more excited to get it but does anybody think that this is abnormal I went close shopping the other day I don't think she was 16 stretch anymore matter fact I don't even say into it 18 stretch anymore I'm sitting in like a solid 20 W at that point I refuse to buy anything midsized wanting because I have never been that is somewhat depressing,no really! My husband is like telling me by summer clothes go buy some dresses go buy some shorts and he doesn't understand I am not putting my big ass into a bigger size not buying fat girl clothes when I'm getting surgery in September I'm just not doing it to myself! I would rather wear just stretchy sweatpants type of shorts and look like a bum all summer then have to buy bigger girl clothes I really really hope that this is just a phase!!!!

I've seen posts like yours before so I would say what you're feeling is normal. Obviously no one can hold you back but you at this point. I think the trigger for this behavior is the idea you won't be able to eat your favorite foods ever again and that's just not the case. We all indulge ourselves occasionally. But once you're banded and your band is adjusted properly you may not want to eat all those foods that created the person you are now. You'll still be you, just you with more confidence and self control.

My doctor calls that "The Last Supper" syndrome! Lol

I gained 13lbs in the month before my surgery( but I also quit smoking...)

I found myself eating things that I thought I wouldn't ever eat again. It happens.

Now that I'm on the other side though, I can't help but think how much further along I'd be if I hadn't gain that weight.

Weight loss with the band is hard work. It's slow going. It takes monumental effort and self-control.

I knew that but I guess I didn't really KNOW it, if you know what I mean.

Think about this: every pound you gain before surgery is a pound you will fight to lose after. Why not start the fight now so that you can be rewarded by a transformation sooner?

As far as buying clothes I was the same way, I refused to buy anything new until I need some clothes after I lose some weight. Even then I may chose to buy my clothes at a second hand store or a cheap store until I get to my goal. I did have a "last supper" but for the most part I watched what I ate, I did not want to struggle with even more weight to lose or my clothes being to tight. Your actions are normal don't worry.

I gained 3 kgs during the period between my first consultation and my surgery...I walked into the hospital wearing the ONLY pair of pants that fit me. Ugh. That said, I did enjoy the holiday season eating everything without guilt or restraint, as I knew I was going to do a 360 in March.

And I did. And I totally threw out that one pair of pants once it got too big.

I definitely had last supper syndrome, but I kept somewhat in check. However I nailed the two week preop diet and lost 26 pounds before the surgery. Granted it sucked, and I'm a big guy @ 6'4" 415-420 depending on the day, so in these beginning days I can drop weight pretty fast. However keeping it off has always been my problem. Just live within reason, and rock that preop diet. My surgeon said it really made a big difference. Banded today @ 394. You are not alone!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
