Started nightshift....

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to ask if anyone here is working nights or graveyard and if so, what kind of hours? I got 3:30pm to 2:00am M-Th,1:30pm to 10:00pm F&Sat. 56 hours total.

My biggest question if those of us that work this stupid shift, where do you find time to exercise and sleep enough? I haven't even walked much less hit the gym in a week because of this new schedule. On top of that I think I have too much Fluid in my band because I can't eat my food unless I magically transform it into a slider.

I'm having a real time with portions and head hunger as well. My weight has stalled for over a month, seems like I can't get enough calories in to match my activity level. I range from 700-1300 a day.

I hope this shift doesn't last till the end of the project....Nov-Dec.

Let me know any of your thoughts on any of this.

John

it is hard but you have to try and reschedule your eating like if woke up in the morning and had your Protein Shake or your small Breakfast then your breakfast before or after your shower a hour before you go to work I used to work 2-11 pm and sometimes I would work till midnight , I am on days now but sometimes they will put me on nights ,but like most people in the day they have their meals you just have to be upside down and it also sucks cause then we're tired after and go straight to bed wich is a problem cause all the food just sits there over night also I would pack a luch either for the week or for that night that way you know what you want to eat for luch then you can just pick something out , it is hard but we just have to eat small meals like some Diabectics have to eat every half hour we are suppose to eat 5 times a day but just our small portions well good luck you'll figure it out take your breaks and take a few bites .

I worked ( I use that term loosely ) 72 hours last week, and got in 8:44 minutes of exercise, so you can do it. I work 12 hour rotating shifts...two weeks of days/ two weeks of nights. Have worked shiftwork for 20 years. I've worked straight seconds for a while......it sucks for family life!

Why not go walking/gym/riding/running/ANYTHING right after you get up in the morning? You MUST find the time, if you really want to do it. Lots of time, I'll ride for 1-2 hours before a 12 hour night shift.

You and your doctor will have to get your band adjustment level figured out. And it can take some time....do not be discouraged if you aren't at a magical green area you hear about. You do the best you can, follow up with your doc, and you'll get there. Just don't let a work schedule be an excuse for not exercising....I did that in the past, too. One reason we were 325 pounds..... :)

Night shift work is bad for weight loss. Gained over 60 pounds while working nights for a 3 year period. Had a friend who weighed over 350 when she died after working for 20 plus years of graveyard shift. My Dr. said it was because the body is designed to sleep at night and then it metabolises during sleep. Day sleepers sleep less hours and less deeply than night sleepers and our metabolisms don't get the chance to work as well. I would get home at around 9am and go walking for at least 20 to 40 minutes and it helped some.

It messed up my sleep patterns so badly that now, almost 6 years later and retired, I have issues trying to sleep. I know that is why my weight loss has slowed down because I have sleep issues. Could not use a CPAP machine because of this. The specialist who was working with said she had never seen anyone with such broken sleep patterns in her 20 year career. She wondered how I was standing up and now falling asleep just sitting down. If I get 3 hours unbroken sleep per night it is great.

fit in the exercise and sleep whenever and where ever you can.

So far nightshift hasn't been too bad. I know my Dr wants me to sleep at least 7 hours, but if I get 5 I am doing good. Going to the gym after work at 3am isn't too bad either. Just frustrating when my workout buddies get off the treadmill at only 30 minutes and leave me hanging.

It's ok because I have my own agenda. Going to make my Dr's goal weight by by birthday. Then we see where I will go from there.

I've worked nights for almost 8 years now...I do 8hr and some 12hr shifts 11p-7a/ 7p-7a. I get anywhere from 5-6 hours of sleep during the day...if I'm lucky. My husband works 2nd shift, so he's with the kids while I sleep, then I get up for him to go to work. As far as exercise goes, I try to get on the treadmill whenever I can. I have a desk job, so sometimes I'll pull up chair exercises on youtube and do that while I'm working.

BTW, I have gotten 2 small fills since I made the original post and have not had to sliderize my food. It's all about following the rules and chewing the right size bites completely.

Working out...... Treadmill for 50-60min every other day keeping heart rate in upper fat burn range. I gained a few lbs probably due to muscle swelling/water retention. Hopefully that will go away soon.

Work stress isn't being my friend lately. Combined with lack of sleep, makes me one hungry dude!!!

I find myself wanting to snack on midnights more than days....usually/hopefully because I'm bored instead of really hungry.... :)

Very true for me. I have had to limit myself on the Snacks. I plateaued for a while and that went away with the limitation of snacking.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
