I just got word yesterday that I was approved for my surgery for July 3rd; I couldn't be more thrilled! I am so excited. I had to transfer to a different surgeon, though, because after months and months of being promised that my surgeon's office would pull through, they weren't able to be covered under my insurance. I'm okay with this because I "clicked" better with my new surgeon...she didn't pressure me to pursue a different procedure. My first surgeon told me I would not be successful with Lapband because as a woman with my BMI, I have too much weight to lose and my "hormones would be working against me." I understand his medical and professional expertise; however, I found the way in which he approached it was very rude and discouraging. I chose Lapband because it is the least invasive and two women in my family have had severe complications to gastric bypass--a concern which he ignored when I voiced it. It was a very frustrating process!

Anyway...all of my pre-op testing is complete and now I wait for July 3rd! However, my new surgeon doesn't require a liver reduction diet! I was shocked because the prior surgeon required a 12 day pre-op liquid liver reduction diet. I've been preparing for this and purchased the materials, so I'm fairly certain I'm going to continue with it. What are your thoughts everyone? My new surgeon is very credible, I trust her and I understand every surgeon is different. I'm also looking forward to the liver reduction diet to help start with curbing my food addiction. This surgery and the post-op diet are my tools to help me win this battle.

Thank you for reading and look forward to hearing from you. You are all brave and I commend you for your efforts to become healthy. Keep it up.

Stay true to you,

Maggie

Doing a pre op diet can't hurt since its to shrink your liver. That will help the surgeon greatly.

Maggie,

A lot of surgeons don't require the pre op diet. Mine did. The Protein and the liquids you will use after surgery so don't worry too much about your purchases.

Lapband requires a lot of aftercare so it's good you switched and you mesh with someone you like ad who respects you.

Best wishes to you!

Thank you very much! You look fantastic :)

Are you glad you did the pre-op? I started mine today. Did you find it helped you transition easier?

Thanks!

Maggie

Congratulations on your approval! I had a similar situation where I had to change surgeons half way through the pre-op program. I love my new surgeon! I am on a 10 day pre-op diet which is high Protein low carb. My last surgeon wanted a 4 week liquid diet so they really are all different.

Keep us updated along the way!

It was hard but after three days it was easier. I guess it helped the transition but I'm sure the surgery alone ( if you take it serious) is a transition,

Have u checked out the YouTube videos of the lapband procedure? It's pretty cool!

I'm taking this surgery very seriously. I have no choice! I'm not going to go through all of this only to fail. I will look at the videos.

Hi... congratulations !!!

I didn't have to do a Pre-op diet and I came through the journey just fine. I lost 17 lbs my first week and there were no issues during the surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
