kyeladavis 2 Posted June 7, 2013 Heres a little back story. My name is kyela. Im 21 5'10'' and 280lbs. Ive struggled with my weight my entire life and have been researching lap band for about a year and finally have my husbands support. So now where do I even start. I signed up for a free seminar on 6/28 but idk if I have to apply through my insurance first or go to a consult with my surgeon first. And how exactly do u apply with your insurance. Do you just call them. Sorry so many questions, I just am so anxious to start now that I got my husband backing me up. Im ready to be healthy and able to run around the park with my 1 1/2 year old daughter. Any advice you could give would be oh so appreciated. You ladies are a big inspiration and I can't wait to be on the journey with you guys. 2 LadyDiva618 and joyb reacted to this

Usually your surgeons office will know how to go about getting you approved and they will turn in the paper work for you. I went to a seminar. They gave me a packet to take home and read and fill out. Someone called me within a few days to schedule an appointment with the surgeon which I did. I then worked with a lady in his office who worked only on pre-approvals. She had a list of things she needed and I worked on getting them for her. I was approved within a week of submittal If your process is similar, my only advice would be is to follow up with everyone to make sure they are doing what they said they did. Be your own advocate. For example, I was told all paperwork was submitted to the insurance. I called the insurance to make sure that was true. ( It hadn't been) I was told by the dr office it would take 2-3 weeks to get approval. I called the insurance company and asked how long it would take. 2 LadyDiva618 and 2muchfun reacted to this

LadyDiva618 359 Posted June 7, 2013 I understand where you are coming from. I started my journey in August of last year. I watch an online seminar then started going to local support groups. During my decision making process I did a lot of research, read books, and started practicing the life style changes if I were banded. Like chewing, and working out for 40 mins 6 times a week. I lost 12 pounds during this time. On May 1st I was banded and I am happy with my decision and as of today I am down 39 pounds! I thank god every day for my support system. Good Luck to you.
