Band Baby- Upcoming First Fill! Excited!

Recommended Posts

I had my band surgery in 2 years ago. Not even 2 months after surgery, I transferred from Northern California to Southern California for my job. A month and a half after my move, I found out I was pregnant. Never had a fill and decided not to since I have blood clots and other things to worry about with my pregnancy.

My 2nd official day of maternity leave and one day before going into labor, my company sold and 2 months after returning to work, I was laid off. Losing my medical benefits after already having a hard time finding a surgeon willing to take me on since I was hours from my original surgeon, I haven't been able to get a fill.

I'm feel like I have started my journey by having my band but haven't used it and feel I'm going no where.

I'm making a special trip up north to see my surgeon and HOPEFULLY get my first fill! I'm scared, excited, nervous! I'll be so upset if I can't get a fill. I'm ready to lose some weight!

With all of this craziness, I thank God for my beautiful band baby who turned 1 on May 23rd. What a blessing!

Wish me luck! Any advice? post-205623-13813135099323_thumb.jpg post-205623-13813135099536_thumb.jpg

Biggest thing I can offer you is don't be too concerned or overly upset if you don't feel restriction right away. A lot of surgeons are different and may only do .5cc's at a time, or some as many as 3cc's at your first fill. I didn't feel a good restriction until about my 3-4th fill. And happy belated birthday to your sweet baby <3 Good luck! Keep us posted!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
