I'm starting over - almost 6 years post op (August 2007 Bandster)

242 lbs 37 BMI on the day of my first surgery 8/30/2007. Lost 100 lbs in 14 months with very aggressive tight fills. So aggressive I slipped several times. Finally had to have the band replaced with a Realize band in Nov. 2009. Never filled it past 3 ml, emptied it down to 0.8 ml after another slip on 12/24/11 and gained back up to 197 by 4/6/13. Switched clinics and got a 2ml fluoroscope fill on 4/6/13 at Forest Park Medical Center (best place for fills ON THE PLANET in my opinion!) lost 4lbs, got another 2 ml today 6/6/13 and at 4.8 ml I'm hoping to lose back down to about 150 over the next year. Planning on taking it slow this time. No drastically aggressive filling and unhealthy weightloss this time! I'm in it for the long haul. :)

Wow, this band business is messy huh. How is the starting again approach working? I have been completely rubbish, but have made a decision, if I don't make some serious inroads into this health issue by end of year, I am going for the bypass. There are some amazing stories on this site.....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
