Annie Wilson's lapband what happened?

Recommended Posts

Sharon Osborne is the only long-term public bandster I can think of. I think she got it done in 1998 or 1999, but Im not exactly sure when. I remember reading somewhere that her PBing drove Ozzie nuts. No idea if that's true.

Sharon Osborne developed full-blown Bulimia post-banding. According to an interview she did, it drives her whole family nuts.

I saw her in concert the Summer before last and she looked good. She definitely had lost weight but I'm not sure how much.

haha!

One of the sugeons I had a consult with said there were many people in the public eye who were banded. I'm not sure who he is referring to here in cowpoke Denver. But he insisted that I would be "totally surprised" by the number of people in the media/entertainment who are banded.

I read somewhere about models being banded just simply to stay thin. Who knows if its true?

I had no idea who Heart was - I was only a kid in the 70's and they werent big in Australia anyway - I kept googling lap band and getting annoyed that this Anne Wilson nobody kept coming up, lol.

Anne Wilson is also on the back of Dr. Ortiz's book about the lap band. She looks smoking hot, but that sounds like that was awhile ago if she gained weight back. Also--about her not being able to eat anything she wanted--doesn't the band just restrict the amount of food, not neccesarily the type?

No....there are a number of food "types" that I cannot eat: steak, Pasta, pizza, rice, bread, etc.

I would not trade the taste of any of them, however, for the 98 pounds I have lost. There is no free lunch...I traded prime rib for a bony butt. LOL

When I went in for my information session at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC....they had a sensational interview with Ms. Wilson from Heart. She spoke so eloquently about the surgery, it was one of the reasons I decided to go ahead with the procedure. She said that it isn't a complete solution but rather more a "tool" to use in the weight loss. I thought that was a pretty good description. She said that after the surgery the work continues.

I'm really sad to hear that she's had the band removed (25% of people do), but since we haven't seen much of her lately, I figured something like that may have happened. *sigh*

BUT.....her talent and music live on forever. I wish her well.

When I was waiting to be admitted for my surgery the staff put on a video about Ann having the surgery. I was curious about how she was doing too. Sad if she gained a lot back but if she is happy, who am I to judge?

OK, I'm pulling out all my Heart CDs and rocking out the rest of the 4th.

Photonut and Diva, loved your posts that took me back to college and my favorite group. Ann Wilson really didn't get heavy till 1980. The video "Alone" was the first to only show her head and not full body. Still she was beautiful!!

Heather, if you don't know the music, get a greatest hits CD. It empowers women and is great storytelling. Nancy Wilson is married to Cameron Crowe, who was the subject of "Almost Famous" and "Elizabethtown" -- both autobiographical.

Ann is at menopause now, so that could be part of the recent weight gain -- if she isn't exercising. Ann adopted her daughter Marie in 1991 and her son Dustin in 1998. The lapband surgery came around in 2002.

As a singer, I could understand removing the band because of reflux. Her voice is her paycheck.

Discovery Health replayed Ann Wilson: From the Heart yesterday. Here is the discription:

Follow the inspiring weight loss story of Ann Wilson, lead vocalist of the 1970s/1980s rock band, "Heart." From her struggles as an overweight child, to her rise to super-stardom and to the medical procedure that saved her life.

I think it was realeased in 2003 or 2004. Oddly it was not listed in the IMDb.

well guys, I'll share the news I have about heart. I was told at a lap-band seminar by the instructors that she had it removed because she wanted to eat anything again. That life wasn't worth it if she couldn't enjoy her food. They said she had gained and incredible amount of wt back. :cry

This is the same reason Sharon Osbourne is getting her's taken out! She can eat around the band, so might as well have it removed!

Didn't she (Sharon Osbourne) actually have band over bypass? I thought that she initally lost her weight through RYN?

I just got Sharon's book for Christmas (I have a great DH) and it does not mention RNY anywhere. She had the band and is having it removed, she says she wants to work on her mental status, not have the band make her vomit all the time. She was bulemic going into this, and should have never been banded to begin with until it was under control. ~Mandy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
