Sliming/Throwing up ??'s

Recommended Posts

So I'm just shy of 6 months post op.

I have Never ever gotten stuck to the point where I was actually worried and i knew only a sip of Water would help move it through

But tonight I had a bite of couscous which has never given me a problem. Then the stuck feeling came it wasn't as bad as everyone says it was maybe It just wasn't a really bad one? It was uncomfortable but not horrible.

But I was wondering what this "sliming" is because I think I was doing it. But none of the food I ate came back up? Just kinda like when you cough phylum(flem) I can't spell lol it was just "runnier" So is sliming kinda like throwing up?

And is sliming bad for your band?

Very normal reaction. It's saliva in your esophogus to help stuck food slide through easier. Too much flem/saliva and you can regurgitate it. If there is food in your esophogus, you may be able to bring some of it up. So, sliming and/or PB'ing is simply bringing up flem/saliva and stuck food. I would think that if this occurred too often, your esophogus might develop some distortion. Once in a while probably not.

last night I had a major stuck episode I was literally sliming for hours until eventually I coughed up a little chunk of flour tortilla.

What causes you to get stuck (and how badly) will vary based on time of day, what you've eaten earlier, how hydrated you are, and numerous other things. All you can do is try to learn for next time.

Yeah I've never done this before so it was kinda scary. Honestly, I think I'm to tight. Because I gurgle a little and haven't been loosing a lot normally I loose 10 in a month and the last few weeks have just been the same weight

I seem to plateau for 2 weeks at a time and then seem to lose 5 pounds in three days. When people talk about average weight loss it's important to remember that it's an average over time not necessarily a steady loss from day to day.

Sliming is related to stuck, and if you are not throwing up will not harm you band.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
