I need to get more Fiber in my diet... have any of you ever tried metamucil... how do you get it down or how do you get more fiber in your diet... those things are particularly difficult for me to get through my band... I really can't afford anything too expensive... thanks

I eat oat bran Cereal a couple of times per week. I use Bob's Red Mill brand that you can get in the health food section of your local grocery. I add no-calorie sweetener, cinnamon, a spoonful of fruit only or low calorie jam/jelly and/or a small amount of berries. It's plenty of fiber, filling and helps to regulate blood sugar so you feel fuller longer. The other thing you can do is to eat plenty of vegetables.

When you say you need more fiber in your diet are you saying that because you are not going regularly? I only ask because many times we think we need more of 'something' in our diet when in fact we're just feeling the pressure of outside influences trying to tell us how to eat. If the reason you are wanting to eat more fiber is for Constipation I'd recommend going the metamucil route and seriously upping your liquid intake. Perhaps even try prune juice. Personally, I'm very regular and do nothing to up my fiber intake whatsoever and do just fine that way.

I have a hard time getting enough Fiber, myself. I'm drinking more Water, eating bran Cereal and Fiber One bars, and adding chia seeds to my water. They are high in fiber, Protein, and Omega-3s. The texture is a little odd, but they work well in crystal light, or ice tea. They plump up in water, and have kind of a tapioca/gel texture, but they go down really easy with the band. You can also add them to Soups and stuff. My band nutritionist turned me on to them.

Curvy mermaid... how many chia seeds does your nutritionist recommend for you per day (serving size)? Sounds like they have lots of good nutrition in them..where do you get them and how much are they? Thanks

I eat more raw fruits, vegetables, and grains to get more fiber in my diet.

A rich fiber diet is good for the heart health and fitness because it controls the cholesterol level and also burn the extra body fat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
