How soon did you go back to work?

Recommended Posts

I'm being banded on Thursday June 13th and I'm scheduled to go back to work the following Monday. It's nothing very strenuous, I'm a teacher and I will be presenting a training to other teachers. No lifting, just on my feet. I also have a training partner, so out of the 6 hour training I will be able to sit for half of it if I need to.

Did anyone go back to work this quickly? The folks at my surgeons office say barring any complications I should be fine. I just worry that I'm going to be in tons of pain.

I was out of work a week and a half and I needed it. There is no way I could have gone back that quickly. My surgeon told me that I should take a minimum of 1 week off from work. I'm sure everyone is different and heals at different rates. I needed the full week and the half.

Did your doctor recommend a time-frame to you?

I was sore but it was doable.

Thanks for all the advice. My surgeon said 5-7 days, then his nurse said many patients are back to work by Monday. I guess I'll have to play it by ear and hope for good pain meds :-)

I had surgery 8 days ago, I went into work for an "emergency" the next day (only for an hour), I returned yesterday (day 7). Other than being tired, I was fine.

I went back today and surgery was last Wednesday. I am also a teacher and commute 52 miles (about 4 hours daily) and I found sitting to be the most painful because of pressure on incisions. I also can't take the pain meds because of a reaction so m only taking Tylenol. It's definitely doable but don't try to be a hero- if you end up needing an extra day or so take it! Good luck!

It's almost impossible to predict how it will be for you. I was out of sorts for a good 2-3 weeks, although I had my gallbladder removed at the same time, and also a hernia repair. Luckily for me, I work most days from home, and was able to do some work & then rest......without having to explain it to anyone. I went to a client's office to work around day 10, and though I was miserable, I got through it.

Good luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
