I never did. Its up to each doctor what they want you to do.

I did not. According to my doc, it depended on my BMI. Mine was low enough that it was not necessary.

The purpose of the preop diet, as I understand it, is to shrink the liver. They need to lift the liver in order to work on placing the band. If the liver is too big, there isn't enough room to work. I didn't have a preop diet, because by the time I met with the nutritionist, my surgery was in just a few days. I had been out of town. She told me to have 2 shakes and one meal until surgery. I have to admit to not following that at all. I ate several "last meals". My surgery went fine. Not that I reccomend that. Obviously it is best to follow instructions. In looking back, I was wrong to be non-compliant. Luckily all went well.

None required for me. My Dr, who spent a lot of time with me in the 10 months I saw him prior to surgery, told me he doesn't require it of patients that he feels can be compliant with the diet following surgery

My doctor required only 1 day prior to surgery - clear liquid diet. It wasn't bad at all. I think I was just so excited. I had my surgery today at 10:30. I will be on a clear liquid diet for the next week. I'm feeling remarkably good. Completely surprised and thankful ! Good Luck to you!

I didn't have a pre op diet. I wish I would have, I went crazy and kept having "one last meal", I gained five pounds in a week.

Me? I was serious during the post op diet. I was a wee bit crazy though, I made melon and cucumber Water, even made a concoction out of Pickle Juice. I would crush Popsicles and then eat them like a snow cone. I would freeze my Protein Drinks and made shaved ice treats out of them too.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
