I was banded on 12/11/12 and have never EVER had a problem with headaches. April 13th I developed a headache that lasted for a continuous 3 weeks with only a few sporadic hours of relief with the help from medications that my doctor prescribed me. I have now started seeing a neurologist that specializes in headaches and he has classified this as a Migraine due to the symptoms I have described. I am on high doses of migraine meds for this problem and it keeps coming back (i.e. all day Sunday I couldn't even get out of bed I was in so much pain). I have heard that some people with Lap Band develop Migraines post-op and was curious to know if anyone on here has experienced anything like this as well. Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I am just the opposite- I have suffered from 2-3 Migraines a month for years. since being banded a month ago I have not had one headache at all. I cannot remember the last time I have gone a whole month without a headache. Good luck- the best thing I can tell you is to work with your doctor to get the right mecicine- It took awhile and trying many different ones, but when we finally found "the one" it was such a blessing!!

Migraines can be kicked off my hydration issues as well as nutrient problems. Make sure you are taking your Vitamins and drinking enough Water. I is good to have your laps run at 3 months post op and see where levels are you may need more suppliments- I do.

You should discuss this with your doctor. Some people have issues with band placement as it relates to your vegus nerve. When I have had a stuck, ate too fast, or was having a bad band day I had horrible headaches and it was related to that nerve. Good luck.

I am 35 years old and have been getting Migraines since I was 12. The spring is usually the worst time for me. I have several triggers and humidity and pollen can really effect how my day goes. Combine that with lack of sleep, that time of month, etc and it can spell disaster. I know that in the Spring, I really need to watch what I eat because it usually takes more than one thing to trigger one for me. I can't eat (nor should I eat most of these now!) hot dogs, pork roll, processed cheese, chocolate, and bologna. I also need to watch how much coffee I drink. Good luck....I feel for you!

Thanks all. I'm going to call and make an appointment with my doctor to have my labwork checked for any deficiencies. All of the other suggestions are very logical, but I know are not applicable to my situation.

Hi, I too never suffered a Migraine prior to lapband being I inserted nearly 1 year ago.

My diagnosis after spending days in bed and feeling terrible was due to a lack of sodium. This was around the 4-5 month mark after surgery. At the time i was exercising a lot, enjoying the sauna and drinking lots of Water. I also don't add any salt to food and find some food, in particular red meat and seafood, really salty tasting which I only eat in small portions. Turns out a lack of sodium can cause some swelling in the brain causing pressure. My treatment was as simple as a few gatorades. Within an hour or so I felt all better.

I've suffered from headaches again after this episode, although never as bad. Since then I keep Gatorade or sodium based hydration drinks on hand, which often do the trick, along with a cup of tea for some caffeine which has also helped alleviate headaches for me.

Speak to your doctor to explore what's causing your headaches. Fingers crossed there is a simple solution. I remember being very relieved at the time finding out my healthy lifestyle was what was causing my problems and finding a relatively easy solution has avoided ending up feeling terrible again.

I tend to get really bad headaches after a fill, but they typically resolve after a day or so.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
