Hello all,

I was banded last Wednesday May 29th. I was put on pureed foods and guess I am tolerating it ok. My question is does anyone else who was recently banded still have major pain? I have pain above my incisions between/under my breasts. I have been walking since the moment and taking gas-x so I don't think it's gas pains. Wearing a bra or sitting up where there's pressure on that area (like driving) is torturous. Does this pain sound familiar to others? I'm reaching out because I called the doctor on Friday on a medication issue and they never called me back so I don't want all my eggs in that basket.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

First, I think it's best to talk with your doctor about it. But I will say that what you're describing sounds completely normal, being that you're only 5 days post-op. Did they do a hernia repair as well?

After surgery I had a problem breathing; I couldn't take a deep breath without pain for quite awhile. Sometimes, I'd be sitting on the couch, and felt such discomfort that I'll pull off my bra & throw it across the room!! But I'm happy to say that I no longer have these issues. Although, every once in awhile, when I'm feeling full, I'll have the sensation that my bra is constricting above my ribs. And when I say "full", it's not the "I've eaten too much" kind. It can be bloat.....gas, or something along those lines.

Yes, I feel for you. I was banded on May 16th and have just started to feel normal. I got my stitches taken out last wednesday and I felt such relief. My pain was near my belly button and it was terrible and I went back to be checked out and they told me it is normal. I had the gas pains when I laid down or napped but this was not gas, it was from the surgery. I would give it a little time b/c you just had surgery but if you feel like it is not normal call the dr. office, I did and talked to the nurses too. If your dr. office doesn't call you back, call them back and ask why they aren't returning your calls? It's probably a mishap, but you need that communication with your dr. The nurses can be helpful, ask to speak to a nurse first.

I also had a really sharp pain under my left breast that made it hard to breath. I also was having terrible dry heaving episodes. Everyone kept telling me it was gas pains, but no matter how much I walked or how much Gas X I took it never helped.

Turned out for me it was the children's chewable and B12 Vitamins making my stomach that sick and causing massive gas and the dry heaving. The pain went away when I stopped taking the Vitamins at 3.5 weeks post op. I'm 6 weeks post op and haven't had a problem since. If you've ever had a hard time with vitamins this might be an option...

My surgery was May 28. I can be sitting here feeling fine and if I move a certain way or try to get up from a laying down position Or have to bend down, I get a major burning sensation. Its halfway from my belly button to my side. My port is in there somewhere because that's the bigger incision with a little one right next to it and both were covered with a more serious looking bandage. I've lost 21 pounds since my pre op diet started on the 14th and my belly hasn't really shrank at all-so I know I'm still pretty swollen :-( but the burning sensation suck bad when it happens.

It's the gas in your cavity not your stomach. My anesthesiologist told me that gas X won't help that... You have to walk and move so the Co2 can dissipate into your muscles. I was banded 5/30...and still have those pains. Hydrocodone and the heating pad have been my friends.

I try to do extra walking and light activities once my pain meds kick in so it doesn't hurt as much.

Heat lay flat on your back and put heat on your chest you will start to feel better after a couple nights with the heat on your chest where it hurts

Thanks!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
