Hi All,

I just found the group last night. I've already attended my seminar and my first consultation. Now I'm nervous. I don't have my spouse's support. He feels I'm just lazy and need to exercise. He doesn't understand. I'm glad I found this group I could use some support from people who understand.

- Valerie

Valerie - welcome to LBT. You may wish to send your husband to this site so that he may better understand your plight.

Best of luck!

I was considering it after reading some of the other posts.

Thanks.

Hi Valerie. I have encountered some very rude comments from the couple of people that I've told too. They seem to think that a lap band is just the "easy way out" while I'm looking at it as a tool to help me. That is the biggest obstacle along my path--the comments from anyone I tell.

Oh well...I'm doing it for me and no one else!! Good luck

Welcome. I am so sorry you don't have your spouses support. I know a few others in the same situation and a couple of them gave up. Don't let anyone keep you from doing what you believe is right for you. He will come around. I've been extremely lucky with the support of everyone. I just feel terrible that you have to face that. You go girl and do what is best for you.

Welcome to LBT VAMarsh. Do whatever you need to do to get your husband on board with your plans. The surgery and band rules you must follow are hard enough when you have the support of your spouse - I can't imagine what this journey would be like if my husband wasn't behind my decision 100%

Best wishes on your weight loss journey - keep in touch so we'll know how you're doing.

Valerie, is your DH even willing to discuss it or is he just totally against it? It would be very difficult, tho not impossible without his support. Maybe he is scared for you? Or for your relationship if you lose your weight? Maybe research it together, attend another seminar, and ask him to go with you? I hope you work it out. I thank God my DH is as supportive as he is, he is my rock!

Welcome!!!! you will find support here. You can ask anything, no one makes you feel stupid for asking! It is an awesome site, with wonderful people, you will be sooooo glad you found it!!!

I am also one of the lucky ones. At first my DH was nervous about it. He thought that this was way to dangerous, (he was thing I wanted RY or DS) then he started reading some of my research on the LB and did research on his own, now my DH is behind me. So are my folks. I have olny told a few people and after hearing some discouraging (sp) comments, decided that I was going to limit who else found out. I refuse to defend myself to anyone on a this. This is for me. The only one who knows at work is my boss, and that is because of the time off work I am going to have to take.

Hello All,

This is my first time to this sight, I heard about at support group last night. I was banded on April 3rd! I have lost 23lbs since surgery, and 17lbs prior to surgery. I always have questions so I am so excited to have found out about this site! One question I do have is, what has your doctors said about drinking from straws? I was just curious, because I have 2 small children and although it sounds funny........drinking from a straw is convient and I miss it!!!!!!

How do you get those cute time charts from timetracker.com to move over to your profile?

Looking forward to chatting with all of you!!

Hi Jen and Valerie......I just recently found this site too....it is wonderful....i am not banded yet but i will be as of June 5th....very excited and nervous. Valerie I have my DH support in fact he is the one who suggested it.....i kept talking to him about it and then he read up on it ....and never in a million years i would have thought he would approach me with the idea....and insurance doesnt cover it so he has to do self pay.....so hang in there Valerie maybe he will come around. Print some info about it in put it in the bathroom...ya know men love to read when they are in the bathroom. Might help a bit. Well Good Luck! Good Luck to you to Jen.

I joined yesterday when I was struggling with this preop diet...
It typically comes and goes, the hard times and easier times. I'm on day 6 of 14  shakes, water, sf Popsicles and jello. And I might actually be losing my mind. But, oh dear lord has the fear set in. Not about the surgery itself, but life afterwards. If I feel this crappy on the preop diet, am I going to feel like this forever after?
I know most of the answers are no, not forever. It might be worse after for a while, then get better. I know it's a more of a mental challenge than physical after the first couple weeks of healing. I get all of that. But I'm starting to feel scared about losing myself afterwards.
It might be my hormones or desire to chew something salty talking.. It may go away soon or tomorrow.. I can hope, anyway. But right now.. The fear is real.

And this liquid diet can bite me.

Fear is normal, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm 4.5 months post-op and the pre-op diet was by far the hardest part of the whole process. There will be challenges and a lot of new things to learn, but I can honestly say at this point I feel so much more "back to normal" and was even able to go on a week-long vacation with my kids without stressing over it. It's so worthwhile.

@NickelChip This actually does make me feel better! Thank you so much! After the onslaught of Covid, we've all had to deal with a "new normal", so I know it's possible. It's just the fear and frustration in this moment that makes me question if I can find another "new normal" afterwards. The thought of just a few more months seems daunting some times, but I really do appreciate input and real experience. I'll use that to get me through for a few more hours! LOL. Thank you so much! And I'm glad everything is going so well for you! ❤️

I started my 10 day pre op diet yesterday I need flavor!! I'm not big on the chocolate protein shakes so I just got to use up what I have was thinking about freezing it to make it like a ice cream so its something I can chew a little. Idk this is hard but I know I can do it just need to find new things to try

You can try. I've read other people have had good results with protein-shake popsicles, etc. My personal experience with it? Sucked.

I tried making 'fudgesicles' with a couple different flavors of a premade shake, as well as a protein powder I blended myself and all of them came out revolting? The powder ones, all the protein sunk to the middle; the premade shakes, the popsicle had a disgusting texture and the protein seemed to leave a weird fluffy film on the outside? I couldn't stomach it.

Maybe look into flavoring additives? I was able to have sugar-free coffee /soda syrup flavorings, sugar-free drink flavorings and baking additives like almond, rum or pepperment extract. The extracts helped me the most as they added no extra sweetener.

On the other hand, if you can get your hands on an unflavored/unsweetened protein powder, the syrup flavorings are perfect. I love to use Boost "Just Protein" (which is unflavored) with milk and a Chai-flavored sugarfree syrup.

        Good luck!
