Got stuck on dinner tonight, it's been a while since that has happened

Recommended Posts

Finally after almost a year of being banded I am finally learning bite size, chewing and taking my time but tonight I caught myself going too long between meals and was starving so when I sat down to eat I was in a hurry and gobbled it down and did I pay, it was fish of all things, either didn't chew or too big of bite, can't remember but wasn't paying attention, I was too focused on forcing the food down, old habits die hard. Ended up PB'ing most of it up, drank some hot tea, now gotta take it easy. Been a while since I had been stuck too, so dang it, ruined a good streak.

That is my biggest problem. Getting hungry then trying to "wolf" it down like I use to.

Me too! I try to not let myself get that hungry because it happens every time... and you never know until it's too late that you've over done it!

I've been having similar issues only for me its because I am so used to eating fast because I have little kids that are demanding attention. Its been really hard to slow down...I've tried a couple of times to eat after them, but by the time they are done, have baths and are in bed its 8pm and then I'm starving! Eating before them means dinner at 4:30pm.

My solution now has been to have some Protein before they eat while I'm prepping their dinner...eat what I can slowly while they eat and I tend to them...and then just deal with it if I don't get to fully finish.

Anyhow...thats a rambling answer a little off topic, but it was just to tell you I feel your pain! :)

We really are creatures of habit. I've been doing very well, also. But I think when we get comfortable with our new way of eating, we put down our guard & go on auto pilot.....which doesn't mean with our new way of eating  I've found myself doing the same thing from time to time; eating without focusing. I realize that I'm eating fast, and not chewing as much as I need to. No major stuck episodes (yet), but I think I've had little ones that pass through within a minute or two.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
