Why is it?

I'm coming up on my 1 yr bandiversary June 13th and have lost 68 lbs so far, maybe I can break 70 by then, woohoo, hope so! My question is, I've started walking but everytime I walk for exercise I get very lightheaded or dizzy like I'm going to pass out, does anyone know why? This is the best I've ever felt in a long long long time and finally able to get some activity but then this happens. I always have to stop a moment on the street, take a few minutes then start back up. All that runs thru the back of my mind is my daddy, he's no longer with me, passed away in 2002 of a massive heart attack but early on he was obese then lost over 100 lbs on his own but I can remember he and I walking together and he would have to stop because he was having chest pains or to catch his breath and he was skinny at that point, 135 lbs at the time. I always walk the neighborhood that I live in and have my cell on me to call home to my mom if need be but its scary when you're out walking and this happens, it's almost like I just need to plop down on the pavement for a min. Hm?

Wow congrats on the weight loss! Hope to be there a yr from now! As far as the light headedness and dizziness, do u have low blood pressure? Are you eating enough calories?

my blood pressure usually runs 110/65 so yes that is pretty low I'd say as far as calories I usually am walking in the middle of the day after lunch so I've had plenty to eat.

Well it might be possible that over exertion can decrease your bp further but I would talk to a dr about it. Until then if you get dizzy I would take it easy.

Could be blood sugar, or meds, or low Iron. Have you had a complete lab workup lately? I'd start there.

Well done on your impressive weight loss!

for this, you need to call your doctor and let them know what is going on as it could be something or (nothing) which i hope its the latter...

Call your doc and get your levels checked. A lot of things could cause this. I had asthma as a child, I still have it, but only exercise induced. If I try to power walk or run without using my albuterol 1st I will get light headed from lack of Oxygen.

Check with the doc, could be a lot of things.

Congrats with your success!

Definitely need to contact your doctor! Maybe something; maybe nothing. Never hurts to be checked out, especially where there is a history of heart disease in the family!

Yes, call your Dr. In the mean time, like Steph04 said, try drinking more Fluid.< /p>

I know for a fact that when I get just a little dehydrated, I get terribly dizzy. You might want to take Water with you.

Just a thought.

Great job on the weight loss! Like the other's said...it sounds like this might be BP related. I hope you get it figured out soon!

My guess is blood sugar. So, maybe have some juice or a piece of candy before?

thank everyone, I did have recent blood work done and all checked out fine and when I went last month my BP was normal but with that said it usually runs low for me like mentioned above even I've seen it sometimes 95/65 at times but for the most part it stays right around 115 or 117/70. I will try more Fluid or Water and will def watch it and mention it to my dr. I will give him a call. Thanks again, oh and thanks for the encouragement on the weight loss.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
