Anyone else get really really depressed from this site?

Recommended Posts

I don't post here very much. Like prior posters have said, I am happy with my weight, my band and my life. When I found this site, it was when I was researching WLS options and I googled "lap band horror stories". I wanted to know the worst case scenarios.

This community has been a great resource for information and support. It also led to the formation of a Facebook group of people that had their bands placed the month I did. The Facebook group has been my primary source of support.

I only recently started posting on this site and I've had my band for 7 years with no complications whatsoever. I got lazy and regained some weight, so I needed to re-focus and get back on track. Actually, those "horror stories" have helped me to think about my band differently. I really never knew about some of those problems, especially since I have been so complication-free. It kind of woke me up to how I had taken my band for granted and abused it. I think I kind of got lucky, because there were many times I ate until it hurt or did other things that could cause real problems. I didn't realize how serious the consequences could be, and sort of just thought that worst case scenario for not following the rules was either not losing or gaining weight. I come here because it helps me stay focused on what I want and need to do. I do have to be careful - yesterday I was reading posts and found myself craving all kinds of crazy stuff. I think it's like everything else (including the band itself) - it depends on how you use it. If you find it being more harmful than helpful - stop. It can be depressing or triggering, and you are the best judge of what's working for you. I have found that there are certain people I can count on for that dose of reality and accountability I need. I use the rest of the posts as a reminder of what I don't ever want to be.

Personally for me I find it easier for me to visit and participate in this forum. Seems that when I do not visit this forum even after almost six years of being banded I tend to get off the journey.

In any case I do find it easier to stay on task when I am on here on a regular basis.

The lab band works for me, works for my wife but I know of others who are close to me and for what ever reason the lab band does not seem to be working.

It all comes down to the simple fact is that I chose this route for my weight loss due to diabetics, back and neck pain and sleep apnea. I no longer on metformin for diabetes, do not take any pain pills and no longer use a cpap machine.

I believe I can deal with a little negativity along the way.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
