Hello all!!

I am 19 years old and recently underwent the lap band surgery on May 28th. I struggled the first few day staying awake due to the anesthetic during surgery, and of course being in pain like never before. However, the pain has lessened and I walking and doing things for myself more (even though my mom thinks I can't do anything or I'll hurt myself ???’). But, I am still struggling with getting all of my liquids in, I'm supposed to be getting at least 64 oz a day and I'm barley getting in half of that. I also can't burp or fart unless I'm on the toilet and I've had diarrhea for the past 3 days every time I use the bathroom. Has anyone else had any of these problems and if so what were some remedies ? Not to mention I'm sooooo hungry and over eating chicken broth!

Thanks

Amanda

I didn't experience the pain but I've read where so many others have. It's a daily topic here. It's OK to move around and do normal things by now. No heavy lifting of course. Just try to get as much Water in as you can. We all store much more than we need but if you get too dehydrated it can be dangerous. Carry your water bottle with your everywhere. Chew on ice too. the ice also helps reduce swelling and adds to your Fluid intake.

Sorry, I was constipated so I'm no help on the diarrhea.

Post-op, I barely got enough fluids. I finally called my doctor because it was really freaked that I wasn't getting enough, and he said as long as I was getting in some and it wasn't going on for more than a week, not to worry about it too much. Make sure you're peeing, and that the pee isn't too dark. That's the best measure of whether or not you're dehydrated.

Pee clear = hydrated

Pee yellow = not too bad

Pee amber or brown = dehydrated

No pee = call your doc, you may need a drip

I like your break down on pre colors. So basic, but I never really thought of it before.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
