dannygoody 12 Posted June 1, 2013 Is it ok to drink after getting banded?
megamomnj 334 Posted June 1, 2013 How long ago were you banded? I had surgery in November and am having a glass of wine as I type. Just count it into your calories for the day. Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk
dannygoody 12 Posted June 1, 2013 Just a week ago. I just wanted to hear somebody say they had a drink. I'm going to wait awhile longer.
JenWis6 98 Posted June 1, 2013 I would wait a while. My doctor wanted us to wait a year to optimize weight loss. I didn't have my first drink until 4 months postop (my birthday) and now it is a beer here and there. Like the previous post said, make sure you count the calories. dannygoody 12 Posted June 1, 2013 Ok, ok lol. I'll wait. Thank you both. I know I have to wait. I just needed somebody to tell me. 1 megamomnj reacted to this

WOW I'm surprised that you can tolerate the carbonation in a beer Don't you feel really full, and uncomfortable? I know everyone is different, but it seems like that is one thing that everyone says to avoid.
soanl1412 71 Posted June 2, 2013 My doc made me wait until I was on the soft diet and just told me not to drink all the time or a lot because it would stall my weight loss. I don't drink beer anymore I miss it I stick to liquor or wine but always the low calorie.
Banderina 69 Posted June 2, 2013 I waited about 5 weeks..now I drink whatever.. whenever I want!

The carbonation usually goes after 5 minutes or so. No problems with a glass here and there. 2 JACKIEO85 and Mandi1441 reacted to this
j0anna 37 Posted June 2, 2013 I read somewhere that people should wait 6 months because some have a "trading addiction" (trading food addiction for whatever) problem. Idk if that's true, but that's what I've been kinda sticking with. 1 beanie80 reacted to this
LeeB1946 261 Posted June 7, 2013 I had my first drink 3.5 months post op. A gin and tonic that I sipped slowly and go about 1/4 way through. 3 nights later at the same bar I took an hour or more to finally finish one and then again 3 days after that. It was too much trouble so won't do that again for awhile. I am not sure if I could cross addict from food to alcohol but don't really want to try. I go to enough 12 step meetings and then with the bariatric support meetings I am never home. LOL!
rbmk14 59 Posted June 7, 2013 I'm kinda bummed about the very minimal alcohol thing as I'm turning 22 next week and have definitely not lived out my partying days yet lol. I know it's a small thing to give up in perspective but it will be annoying not to be able to have a few drinks out with my friends and stuff. Guess I'll always be the DD from now on..
